Choose your poison!...same song, same Tele, same Keeley comp, same player. Out of the box (thanks Bilbal, great transaction!) this amp wants to ROCK bigtime. It took some time for me to dial in a sound that would work for this particular bt, but its all in there....country, rock, blues. The Galaxie clip is recorded in one pass, so the playing is a bit rougher than the Sting clip, which has a few overdubs. Yet another fine amp from the Doc!...and one LOUD mofo. ;D And don't be fooled by this clip, I've dialed in a smooth country tone for this one...the Galaxie will absolutely breathe fire on the second channel. Easy Goin' Sting/Galaxie

They both sound great, but I like the Galaxie clip better than the 'Ray. Now, how about some of that fire breathin' second channel? ;D

+1 on the Galaxie tone over the Ray on that recording. It seemed to have more bass, and mids which I personally love! Great clip by the way. Paul

+1 on the Galaxie tone over the Ray on that recording. It seemed to have more bass, and mids which I personally love! Great clip by the way. Paul No doubt about it 6strang...some of that could be translated through my poor recording ability though. In reality, there is more 'hair' on the Galaxie, which takes some of the sharpness off the notes and could create a rounder tone easier on the ears? I had the treble back to 10:00 and the bass at 2:00...it can otherwise be a fairly bright amp. The tone and bass knobs have a significant impact on tone shaping this amp...moreso than any other Z I've played. Steve, don't worry...Curt has already lined up first in the event I sell this amp. That should take some stress away from you! ;D

Dunno Curt ;D...the Gal is growing on me fast, gig tomorrow night will answer a lot of questions, always test with a band before making final decision!
Hey Dan, it's kinda similar to a Rt 66 in the mid and feel department, only plus a killer second channel...you'd like this amp. I'm pretty satisfied with channel one and an RC Booster at this stage.

Each amp has its own voice and wonderful ones at that. Great playing Bill and a niece piece to sit back and listen to. I like em both...I like em both a lot. Either one fit into the mix exceptionally well...its just a matter of what attitude you want to convey. The StangRay certainly came across as rich tradition country and the Galaxie...well more edgier and agressive... modern country or classic rock sounds. It comes down to each his own I'd say. Having both would cover a lot of ground though.

I probably shouldn't have titled the thread 'vs', because it's not intended to be a challenge, but a simple comparison of two sweet amps.

Appreciate that comparison. Kinda what it was sounding like. I just REALLY dig that for a new-country kinda tone. Real rootsy/americana/raw amp tone. Love it! Might have answered my thoughts...maybe I'll part with the R66 and swing for the Galaxy. Although I dearly love the R66. But I think there's definitely a strong overlap. Hmmm....feel a trip to the store for some G.A.S.ex coming on. Oof.... And, btw, I really enjoyed the playing. Good stuff - nice chordal leads. Tasty indeed!

Dang! I like em' both. More cut with the Ray and the rolled off high end on the Galaxie. You get this more articulated vibe with the Ray. If I played like this I'd have both of these and a maz JR on stage. I think that covers the whole range. Hmmmmmmmm, Ray or Galaxie------Since I am a hack I will run to the Galaxie first since it will cover up my playing and then I'll practice more and pick up the Ray next. Dang

They are both great in there own way but for nashville style picking I think the Ray is going to be hard to beat.I would love to hear the high gain side of the Galaxie cranked....Sterling

Madison, could you do the "easy goin" song with a 66 as well? PLease lol.... The 66 is my fav amp but the sound track works well to hear the differences between the amps.

Thought about using the BB, but that would be 'cheating'! So when the opportunity arises with everyone out of the house, I'll put a little Galaxie channel 2 on tape.

Bill, there really is quite a stark tonal contrast between the two. The Ray is definitely more present and articulated. The Galaxie sounds very smooth, but almost nasal by comparison.
The really telling thing about those two clips (and your playing) is that after listening to one for a few seconds, you don't care about the other one-- it's just so great to listen to.
Definitely more glass on the 'ray. The Galaxie comes off like it's a rock star forced to do country covers, like it really wants to strut its stuff and is just waiting for the chance, while the Ray *is* strutting its stuff, right in its element.

After gigging the Galaxie Saturday night I've concluded the Stingray is still my number one. The Gal was a pleasure all the way around, but if you're into loud, punchy, clean & articulate...I just haven't been able to find another amp (yet) that can equal the Ray.

Hey Bill (Bolling),
What speaker/cab did you use to track that Galaxy clip? I demo'd a 112 today with the G12H65.
Quite curious...
Thanks!
