On my 2012 ghia head the chart calls for a 5751 in v2. I just got a 2014 1x10 ghia combo that the chart calls for a 12ax7 in the v2. Anyone know why? I thought both would use the same tubes.

Interesting. I wonder when V2 changed. My 2011 model calls for 5751 in V2.

My Mini had a 5751 in it when I got it but it did have a prior owner so not sure how they shipped.

The 5751 will have less gain, be smoother and have more chime than the 12AX7.

I read somewhere in an interview with the Doc that the older Ghias used a 5751. Then, the word got out and older supplies started drying up, forcing him to switch to the 12AX7. There are still enough 5751's for you and me, but an amp company needs a reliable supply of parts. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Btw, the Ghia sounds great with either tube.

There are still enough 5751's for you and me, but an amp company needs a reliable supply of parts. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Btw, the Ghia sounds great with either tube. I believe this is the correct reasoning, as well. My Ghia (built in '13, I think) arrived new with a 12AX7 in V2. I changed that out for an NOS 5751 and I like it a lot more; the amp feels & sound just a bit less gainy and congested. [BTW, anybody with a Z-28 might wanna check their V2 spot, as well... the 5751 was spec'ed there, too.] The trick here is that you've gotta use NOS 5751 tubes--the new ones just don't cut it (they're not built to spec), and that's why Doc can't source 'em in large numbers. Know & trust your tube vendors, folks...

I also use a NOS 5751 in my Ghia's V2 socket. Some folks like to put that tube in V1 and use a 12AX7 in V2. Conclusion: buy a 5751 and try it out in both positions. Use 2 x 12AX7 for more gain. That raises the question: Did Dr Z alter the circuit a bit to compensate for a new base case of dual 12AX7s in the Ghia?

I like the way my head sounds with a 5751 in it. The combo has a more edgy gainy sound but I just figured that might be because of the Red Fang and the fact its a 10 inch speaker. I usually run my head though a Z 1x12 with a V 30.

I've had a few more days playing my new CG with the Red Fang speaker. All I can say is wow! Its got to be the most toneful amp I have owned. Plus I love its size. I have had a lot of amps and been playing 45 years. I'm 58 now so I needed something smaller with lots of tone and enough power to gig with. This amp is perfect!!
