Gonna completely retube pretty soon. I'm trying to keep the amp real clean and loud, with really scooped mids. Which tubes seem to fit the bill?I was considering putting all JJs across the board. Thanks

My advice. If you like the way the amp sounds now, don't change the preamp tubes. They last a really long time. Years and years. You could get a bad new one and then it's trouble. Also, never change all of the preamp tubes at one time. If your tone is then off you don't know which tube or combination of tubes did it. If you are going to change, change them out one at a time and then listen. Then you know the effect of each tube. I think of preamp tubes like light bulbs. You don't change all of the light bulbs in your house on a regular basis to keep them from blowing. Only mess with them when they go. The only way you are going to get really scooped mids these days is NOS and that will cost you a ton. Most new tubes, especially jjs, have a mid spike. JJs tend to be upper mid spiked. Easier to mess with the tone controls or change the speaker to get what you want, than to get it by changing tubes. Tube changes tend to be subtle.

Interesting. I mainly was planning on changing because of a weird bass feedback issue- With the post all the way up, if I set the pre above a certain point, there's this terrible farting noise that I can't dial out.

Is it when the guitar is plugged in, plugged in and playing, not plugged in? Make sure you don't have a cell phone on in the vicinity of the amp.

the NOS tubes and even the NOS Pre amp tubes are the only way to go, Yes $200-250 is a lot for 2 tubes but...... the old tubes last a LONG LONG Time if you periodically check them I have had a pair of Blackplate Sylvanias in for about 2 years the RCA 7025's and 12AX7's are ORIGINAL!!!

The noise problem is not caused by a cell phone. The noise happens when the amp is on, no guitar volume on, just the amp.

Only change one thing at a time and then check to see the difference. You'll be chasing your own tail if you change them all at once.

I have the bass hum problem too but if I put the post on 9:00 and use the pre as the volume it is almost non-existant. Turning the mix up on the reverb adds to the problem but I use very little reverb. I did change my whole tube complement one at a time and found no difference. I could not find any Groove tubes so I went with Mesa Boogie 6L6s since I use to run them in my 65' Twin. They worked great. I biased them at 30ma.

I am also using two RCA 7025 AX7's in V1 and V3 and it sounds phenomenal. Paired with an EVM12L in a StoneAge cab and I sm in heaven. Selling a bunch of other amps.
