OK I've been fiddling with this new G-System here, integrating it into my Stingray environment, and it is just sounding sweet. So this clip is NOTHING like any I've put up here - very different. I play (well, noodle) like this all the time, and you'll quickly see why I don't put up many of these (you get it, clams and all), but I think you'll agree that the Stingray and the Grosh Tele are sounding mighty fine indeed. First, the setup - I made this diagram to work through the various setup related stuff: And the clip - sorry, this thing is just over 8 megs: Stingray/Chime.mp3As you'll hear, I had both bridge and neck pups on for much of this, but then switched to bridge only for a few licks, then back to bridge and neck. Love that sound! The G-System was set with everything thru except delay.

Cool, Steve. Very different for you, but I really like it. Really shows off the amp.

Cool clip! That diagram gives me a headache though. Me too. Are you an engineer, Steve? Scott hehehe... depends who you ask. No formal engineering training here, but I've been working in engineering for around 27 years, and at one time had around 30 of them working for me. Now I'm just a lowly tech writer.... ;D Here's the deal though - you decide to integrate a very complex device into your stage setup. How do you make sure you get it right? And how do you make sure it stays the same when you have a problem and have to uncouple some of that stuff? Right, you make a diagram so that you don't have to remember for the next five years what your thinking was. I did this for the monitor mixer for our band about three years ago. I got all sorts of rolled eyeballs when I showed up with that diagram. Now the band can hook the thing up and get it running without my help, and every time we set up, someone comes looking for that diagram. I'm going to have to reprint it because it's beginning to fall apart!

Actually this is considerably simplified from my old rack where I used a Rocktron Patchmate (9 loops), separate preamp and power amp, and about four processors along with numerous pedals. The G-System simplifies things considerably from those days. And using the Stingray as preamp and power amp improves the tones SIGNIFICANLY from those days. This is going to be a very fun setup....

Dang, Steve...that was sweet! Chimey indeed, beautiful tone man. Heads up, I picked up an NOS Mullard 12AX7 for my 'Ray today, really ups the chimey-ness. I switched back and forth from it and the Sovtek several times , definitely more singing quality and sparkle with with NOS tube.

so what is G-System actually doing? or is the clip showing how non-evasive the unit is when bypassed? i just hear some slapback delay and room sound, which may be a reverb sound from G-System.

The slap back is the G-System. The room sound is the room. I had one Rode NT-1 near the front of the cab, and the other about twelve feet away high up in the air. Actually left channel is room mic, right channel is close mic. I was just getting off on that slapback with the Stingray and switched on the recorder to capture a bit of it.

Very cool Steve. A different side of your playing we haven't heard too. Wish I could do that Travis picking.

Very cool Steve. A different side of your playing we haven't heard too. Wish I could do that Travis picking. Thanks! You should learn that fingerstyle - it really helps you get used to the idea of using your fingers while you play. For that clip I was wearing a thumbpick, but I mostly play with a flat pick and use my fingers for double-stops, pedalpoint, and just general playing notes. It is very handy to have along on a gig...

Man. I've got a BSEE and an MSEE. The best drawing that I could come up is shown below. What did I do with my education? I'm going to have dig out my protractor and all of my other tools from my Mechanical Drawing class to see if I can do better. The bar has been set. By the way, nice picking and nice sound. I really enjoyed it this morning.

Makin' a diagram takes a little time but it's so helpful... I've made diagrams when I was gettin' my pedalpad, not a system like that but cables were both under the pedal's rows, so I had to pay attention to routings if something went wrong with George LS cables.

Now, he has an original GuitarZ on his wall. Think it'll appreciate in time?
