**By "downgrade", I mean smaller Z-Wreck** So I have my "Dream" amp, a Quantum Silver Z-Wreck Head and cab (with 2 golds). I went with a head/cab setup because "usually" they are lighter, but I noticed that the 1x12 combo is about 15 pounds lighter than the 2x12 cab by itself? Plus, I don't need a 2x12 at most of the gigs I play and I drive a smaller 2 door car (Pontiac G5) and it's not a fun car to load/unload. My question is this....For anyone that has played both, if I trade for a 1x12 combo, will I still like it as much? Does it still have the Z-Wreck "Mojo"? This isn't anything I'm in a hurry to do, plus I don't plan on shipping the amp..... But if I find the right deal, I may do it if "you" all think it'll be good?

I was forced to sell my head and cab a few years back and now I own the combo. I am having to go by memory, but the combo seems to be more focused and resonant and sings out more readily. Generally I find head and cab setups to be more flexible and less problematic, but the Z-Wreck combo is working out quite nicely for me.

The guy to check with is Mike (doctorice) he has both and I notice he is trying to sell his combo. Might be worth it to see what he thinks about the two.

I hear it as a bit more open and spatial. In contrast, the combo seems a little "boxed in" But that's only apparent in a side-by-side setting. I've gigged the combo several times and it's a delight. Right size, acceptable weight, fantastic sound. That said, I'm contemplating selling the combo, as Mike notes, since I've picked up a couple amps (Therapy and Rx ES heads) and am out of space in my closet-sized music room.

Thanks for the reply's.... Like I said, it may be a while. But I'll also keep an eye out for someone selling a Z combo cab.

Thanks for the reply's.... Like I said, it may be a while. But I'll also keep an eye out for someone selling a Z combo cab. You might already know this, but the Z-wreck is on its own chassis, not shared with any other Z-amps. So, if you end up looking for a combo cab to fit your amp, it's gonna have to be the specific blue Z-wreck combo cab (which I doubt there'd be many out there). Or, there's always Mather Cab company...

I like the combo Wreck better than any combination I had. Started with the first run of head and cab. Then got a head and ran that with one or two 1-12 cab's or a 4-10 cab w/Gold's. All sounded great, but the combo just has something special. The bigger rigs were louder and more solid in the low end, but the combo is more 3D sounding and swirling.
I think you'd be happy.

Telejas - My gut says that you're a younger guy. When I got my Maz Jr, I wanted a combo to make everything thing easy to simply walk in, drop the amp down, jack in, and play. I was younger and also picked up an Avatar 2x12 for bigger sound when needed. Well, that 2x12 started feeling really heavy and I finally sold it. I have to be honest that the Maz Jr combo is now starting to feel heavy. It's much easier to grab my Ghia head and J Designs 1x12 and rock & roll. My Ghia gets a bit more use these days just because it is a head. I have an extra cabinet stashed at rehearsal and just need to take the Ghia head along.
So, sound is one thing. I really like the sound of a 1x12. But, give it some thought as to weight. If you're younger (and/or stronger), maybe it's not something to worry about.
By the way, I checked out the Facebook page. The band sounds real good! The Train Train tune is cool with the harmonica on top of the heavy southern sound. Cool!
Oh, with all of the above said, I still have a small urge to get a Maz Jr studio combo.
