The Xotic BB really dirties up the 'Ray nicely, the playing is rough but you get the idea of the sound. The chain is Tele/ Keeley comp/ BB preamp/ Stingray...the BB is set gain at 9:00, comp knobs at noon. BB

Probably the best sounding 'Ray clip I've heard! Very, very nice. How 'bout giving us some BB and 66? ;D

Wow! Thanks, Bill! Nice and Chewy sound! I like the tone a lot.
How much gain does the BB have though? If that's just at 9:00, I'd assume you have MORE than enough to just just about any kindy of tone.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you found something worthwhile in there. Justin, there is LOTS more gain available...but then of course you tend to lose articulation and clarity. I'll try to record another clip tonight with the the gain over past noon so you can get an idea of a more extreme setting.
It's a very cool pedal, I'm warming up to it fast...hey, isn't that an oxymoron?? ;D

For anyone wanting to hear the "Marshall" side of a Stingray, I've now added a second clip entitled "more drive". It's just some power chords (no bt) with the BB drive at noon. At the end you can hear that the BB will still allow a good Paisley twang to cut through despite the somewhat heavy (at least to me) OD. This was recorded pretty loud, but since the wife is visiting mom & dad in Texas...there's no problemo!

Those were way cool. I guess that's pretty much it. I have to get a BB to complete the trilogy. I had a BB but I never got a good chance to test it. I never gave it a fair shake, so I returned it. I'll have to get another one again. Maybe on my next trip to MusicToyz.

Awesome! I guess you won't miss the Route 66 with the 'Ray/BB combo. What pickups do you have in your Tele? As you go through your clips it's amazing how versatile that guitar is.

Thanks for the kind words guys, I hope the clips help some...sounds like it may have prompted Paul to complete the Xotic trilogy, that's cool! I originally bought the AC and RC together, but eventually got rid of the AC...about the time the BB came out. Dan W & benttop's (among others) writings got me interested enough to make the go on it, and I'm glad I did. For even more fun, stick the RC after the BB and goose it up a bit when the time calls.
shortyz, all the clips on the Soundclick site are the Tele except one...which is my early 80's strat I bought brand new in Texas. Curt hooked me up with a killer deal on a set of Kinman AVn 60's, and they went in the Tele last summer. The only thing I can compare them to are the Texas Specials in my sons Tele, and the Kinmans are clearer, have more chime, are more balanced, and have a little more output. Of course they were an instant improvement over the stock SCN Fenders too.
Also I forgot to note the speaker used in the BB clips is a Cannabis Rex.

Vurry nice!
Just curious, how does the Keeley comp add to the sound? I don't use compressors (I'm mostly a 'bucker guy, getting more into SCs).

Thanks, Dan...basically your thread had just a little to do with all this! ;D
skydog, I've never used a compressor with 'buckers, but normally will with SC's. In the last year I've been through a Carl Martin, Allum modded Boss CS-3, Barber Tone Press, and finally a standard Keeley. Each one has done a little bit better job along the way...the Keeley is a VERY nice compressor, and it will undoubtedly be around a while. It works KILLER with the BB, a match made in heaven.
The last two days I've used the two pedals with a DSL 50 set on the clean Classic channel, into a 2x12 Marshall 1936 and have dialed in quite a rock machine...not that I could use it with my band, but WOW around the house it is a blast. Crank the Master, keep the gain knob at less than noon, and let the Keeley/ BB do all the work. Very thick and full, lightning fast attack, lots of chunk...you'd swear I was using a LP instead of a Tele!
So yes, IMO the Keeley comp definitely plays an important role here. You just have to have the input trim turned up hot.

Thanks, Dan...basically your thread had just a little to do with all this! ;D Well, you may have returned the 'favor' with the pups. ;D I'd concur with the comp...I never used one until I started using single-coil pups. You can have the spank/thinner tone but have some of that sustain/compression the humbuckers allow - higher output slams the amp/effects a bit more and compresses more than a single coil. Compressor w/a drive pedal adds some of that back into the feel. Plus, it's nice for spank/pop playing - keeps things on an even keel output wise. I've run down several comps and stopped w/the Keeley. As with all effects, different makes/models work better with different setups and playing styles so you still need to experiment a bit to find what's best for you. But, the Keeley's a nice place to stop and experiement.

The only worry I have is losing my dynamics with the compressor. Would it make a difference if I got the 2 knob Keeley comp vs. the 4 knob?

Thanks jason, hope you enjoy the new BB. I look forward to hearing your Ghia/ BB clip!
skydog, that's the compromise you have to make with a compressor...gaining sustain & a certain feel vs limiting your dynamic range. They're simply not for everyone. My son has no use for a comp with the music he plays...in your face, loud, just crank it and go go.
The key to using a comp successfully IMO is by using a low gain setting on your OD box. Too much OD along with a compressor= mush. The lastest recording on my soundclick is my Princeton with the BB gain at a lowly 8:00, with normal noon settings on the Keeley comp. With the OD off, the comp gives some nice tone and with the input trim set hot it'll wake up your amp some.
If you DO decide to buy one, the two knob and four knob are the same, except the two knob has the input and attack trim on the inside. I set it and forget it on those two, so the cheaper two knob works for me. The input REALLY affects the box so the first thing one should do is try it all the way left, and then all the way right...and you'll quickly feel and hear which direction you'll want to go based on your personal taste. Rockstok, the other guitarist in my band only uses his for solos...it works great for that too.

Thats the closest I've heard any pedal and the STINGRAY/STANGRAY get to an AC30 plugged into the top boost channel, going flat out. Very interesting. I'd also like to hear a good treble booster with germanium drive the front end of the Stingray?Stangray as well. I love old voxes but the are all different. I always played through the top boost channel though and loved the creamy drive the went go into when the tubes heat up. Kind of infamous though for catching on fire.
Well done on that clip.

Very Nice Bill ! I finally got Soundclick to work !! LOL musta been the kido's hookin' up their iPod Nano's after Christmas LOL.
Man that 'More Drive" tone would be just right for my Brand of pseudo (sp?) country. I dig it.
I liked those Kinmans for Clean Classic Tele spank but could not get into them with a Dirty sound...they sure work for you, Nice Bud.

Great stuff! You've got a veritable library of Z sounds going on your site, and you present the different tones in neat fashion. I think it's really cool that you put your son in the mix too. I wish I had a dad like you when I was 16!
