Anybody else ever had such an issue? I have been using my Mini Z for about a month now and have tried using a few different preamp tubes with quite a variety in tone changes but always not to my full satisfaction at all settings. Last night i was determined to solve my problems and got out every tube i had lying around and started the big roll,as i called it. In order to keep things easy i wasn't using the metalic cover during my testing,so at one point a jj went in and everything was exactly the way i wanted it ,so i stopped right there ,put the tube cover in its place and turned the amp off. After about an hour of thinking what a great sound i got out of this little gem,i went back for some more and as i started playing a very annoying frequency in the highs was bugging me in the sound that i didn't remember being there before,so i took the tube cover off and there was my sound again. Is it ok to run the amp without a cover in the preamp tube? Is this a common issue?

No problem running a tube without the cover. It's pretty much there as a noise shield. Some folks hear a difference without them, some don't.
