From a thread over on the Stangray forum: I discovered that all this time I have been liking the sound of the Alnico California I'm playing through right now, and NOT liking the sound of the THD 2x12 I have in my studio. But with the humbuckers, it is exactly the opposite: the Alnico totally compressed on low notes but the THD just RAWKED! Fascinating. I did throw together a quick clip but it was real quick, and doesn't really explore all of the tones available. If I were going to do this right, I would record a bit, adjust the tone a bit, until it was what I was trying to get. But this should give you a bit of an idea assuming you can tolerate a whole song worth of blues wanking! This is my PRS Singlecut straight in to the Stingray which is connected through the Airbrake to the THD 2x12. I stuck a Rode NT1 about 18" in front of the 2x12 cab since there are two different kinds of speakers in there. Stingray Humbucker Wankage (3.6 Megabytes) As always, standard disclaimers apply...
