Okay, for the last couple of weeks I've been playing with my Carmen Ghia trying to get the 10" Celestian Gold broke in . . . . tonight I pulled the Therapy back out . . . . WOW. The Ghia sounds great and does it own great things but so does the Therapy. Smoooooth OD all day long and I still really dig the thick fat cleans. Some of you know I play Parker guitars (love or hate them, its what I like) and I recently picked up one that is equiped with all single coils. I happen to have a set a Fralin singles on the shelf so I finally got around to installing them in my Parker NiteFly. The pups sound great, no doubt about it but they amp sounds really great with vintage output single coils. I mean really great. Even with a fair amount of OD going there is a glassyness to the sound that really give the amp a sweetness that I hadn't before. I know I am trying to use words to describe a sound but with the lower output singles there is very little "growl" the overdrive. Its very very smooth but . . . still super thick and fat. I really wasn't expecting this type of sound, never had it in my hands before. I've always loved hard rock and blues sounds but this has a different flavor for me and I really liked it. Played for almost an hour just running scales and chunking on chords because the tone was so pleasing. The only down side . . . . that single coil hum grrrrr, make me want to growl (even the though the amp wasn't) So Therapy owners . . . . what is your favorite guitar/pup combonation with your Therapy? Why? I still like my buckers in my other Parkers but these singles will get a lot more playing time Todd

Hey Todd, For pure nasty-arze rock I gotta' go with my Road Worn 72 Deluxe Tele.
I put Lollar Regal Widerange Humbuckers in it.
The Regals in that Tele make for a fat and clear tone. There's nice top end sparkle with fantatic note bloom.
This Tele is a fire breathing beast - but back off on the guitar volume and it gets a gorgeous clean tone. Pretty amazing really.
I have a custom made Tele that I traded for software years ago that I fitted with Lollartron's . I also slapped on a Soulmate custom made Strat neck. After reading Lee's post, I'm gonna have to fire that baby up through the Therapy.

I have a REAL problem answering this one Todd, and I think you'll understand why my answer is not flippant, but is a genuinely sincere answer.......... my favourite guitar / pup combination is .......... whatever I plug into it at that moment!! I keep thinking, "ah, THIS is my favourite!" ........ until I plug in the next guitar! Now, specifically for the band I'm playing in at the moment, the PRS Mira S2 ('buckers) is the most useful and sounds incredible (think SG), and I mix that up with the LPS with Lollar P90s (they BITE, grrrr!), so for all this Indie rock / modern rock stuff, I'm covered............ but when I plug my Strat in, wow! It just sounds "more", and fuller and richer than any Strat has a right to sound!! Then the Tele............. you get the idea

Deluxe Tele with SCNs is my favorite right now. Dead quiet, no hum, and a touch of break up as my base tone.
I would really like to try it with a P90 guitar. Pete said it rocks and I bet it does.

If I didn't know better, I'd swear Jason Lollar spent a day or so with the Doc fine tuning his P90s with the Therapy......... the match is uncanny, and is probably my favourite combination........ today............. and not by much............... but they just CONNECT!

Well I started with my Grosh Retro Classic VT (Vintage Tele) and it about blew my sox off. Had a very hard time putting that down, but eventually tried my Les Paul, which I decided I needed a bit more time with the tone stack to get it dialed in just right, so sat that down and picked up my Grosh Bent Top Custom (Strat) and I have not been able to try anything else since. The neck pup on my Bent Top Custom just has "the sound" and my Therapist, Charlene, tells me, "Leave that!" And I do whatever my Therapist tells me to do. Both of my Grosh's are equipped with Lindy Fralin blues specials in the neck. The bridge on the Tele is a blues special too, but the bridge on my Strat is a humbucker that Don Grosh had custom wound explicitly for the match to the middle pickup (for that right quack) when split. I still have several other guitars who have not even met Charlene yet!

Not to be a copy cat but I echo Pete's statement. Have not been able to plug in this week but the last time I played was with EMG pickups and got a nice metal tone Prior to the EMG it was s strat with Texas specials pups and while the amp had its thick OD going the tone was very crystal and clear

One reason I love my Therapy so much is, it is not picky with pickups or guitars. Sounds the way I want with anything I've thrown at it. I've sold many amps ( including Z amps ) because they sound great with one guitar or pickup style, and not as great with other pickup styles.
Todd, as far as the single coil 60 cycle hum, you just have to find ways to deal with it. I ride my volume control, always rolling it off if not playing. If your Fralin's have a middle pickup that is rw/rp, positions 2 & 4 should be humbucking. Sometime you can turn a certain direction and it will also disappear.
I've been playing Strat's so long, I doesn't bother me. Plus the true single coils have much more character than the noiseless types...to me

I'm stuck on my LP currently because I'm thinking of gigging the Therapy, and the Lester is my axe of choice for the blues-rock group. The challenge is there are so many appealing knob settings on both the amp and the guitar.
And I haven't even started on using pedals with the amp.
Todd, I'll have to try my Parker into the amp one of these days.

Nash Tele with Lollars sounds spectacular straight in pushing a Z Best. Pick attack and guitar controls to do the clean to mean thing.

I've been playing my Crook Lesquire with Florance Vodoo pups since I got the Therapy and I seem to have forgotten that I have other guitars?! This combination just knocks me out every time I play it. That darned Doc amazes me with this amp.......How does he do it?

I have a set of Jim Wagner WCR Crossroads in my Les Paul and Fralin Blues Specials in my Tele. Both sound great with the Therapy, as well as with my Remedy.

This amp truly shines with anything I plug into it. I wasn't expecting humbuckers to sound so great but they do. I have the same problem as everyone else though, once I'm plugged in I don't want to change guitars and I'm probably not using the "correct" speakers at this point.

+1 on the P90's. My Les Paul Jr. sounds huge with the Therapy, really snarls like they should. But right now I'm hung up on playing my 335 with 57 Classics in it. That combination goes from sweet to sledgehammer and does either tone with ease. Great amp. I keep wanting to plug in my Strat but I can't stop playing the 335!
