So, big loss of volume as I powered up the EZG this a.m., so I'm thinking it's probably time for a new pair of 6L6s. Just wondering what you-all are running, if not the stock pair. Thinking maybe new production Mullards, or maybe some NOS Jans, though they're pricey. I love the voice of the EZG with the stock tubes--so that's a possibility, too.

My suggestion? Take out the "big" checkbook, and take the plunge. NOS RCA 6L6GC's: There IS no substitute:

I recall the Doc himself being a big fan of the Tung-Sol 6L6GC STR's as an excellent replacement in the EZG. I would follow the good Doctor's advice...

I am running a pair of TAD 6L6WGC-STR tubes in my EZG biased to 33.8 ma. Sounds good to me but those Tung Sols sound interesting.

maddog!!! + 1 on the RCA's or any 50's 60's BLACKPLATE BIG BOTTLE 6L6GC's RULE!!!! They are the only thing I been using in my 67' SR and they last a long long time if you keep watch of the settings not getting them to hot on the Bias side

Jamie.....I'm embarrassed to admit what I paid for this pair..... They had never been used. Popped 'em into my Therapy and stood back.... No substitute for blackplate RCA's....

I have tried a whole bunch of them, I settled on a new set of the GT they came with it in one, and svetlana in my second. As of recent, I have been experimenting with 7581's in my Therapy though...and have to say they are great. They are JAN. But I can't seem to find them for sale anywhere right now. Tungsol makes them now too, but I haven't tried them yet. That's if you want to squeeze the most headroom out of the amp. If I wanted to tame it down, I might look at some 5881's.. But I like it stout, loud and clean.

I've had good luck with the Mesa Boogie 6l6GC STR440s. I've been using them for years.
