Sorry if this has been asked before, I did some searching and could not find anything. I just received my CG in the mail and it shipped without the tubes installed. The amp shows the V1-V5 and which tube goes in each position. Does it just go left to right? Is V1 the farthest left and V5 the farthest right?

from this pic it looks like v1 is farthest right looking at the back of the amp. drzamps.com/amp/carmen_ghia/rectifier is the biggest(6 pin) then el84's then 12ax7's good luck rp

On Z amps....V1 is always closest to the input jack. Phase Inverter is always closest to the power tubes.
So starting from THAT jack and moving away...it should be
V1 12ax7 (closest tube socket to input jack) V2 5751 or 12zx7 V3 el84 v4 el94 v5 rec tube
and as said above...the rec tube has larger pins and tube socket.

The Ghia is a great amp. I prefer to keep a 5751 in V2, per Doc's design.

One more question. There is a piece of metal hanging down from each EL84 socket. What am I supposed to do with this? It looks like it is supposed to support the tube, but I cant figure out how to get it around the tube.

It is a tube holder/clip. You gently clamp them over the top of your tubes. It keep them from falling out.
We want to know what you think of the amp!!!

The power tubes are EL84EH. Is this a standard sized EL84? The clip doesn't want to go over top of the tube. I feel like if I push any harder I might break the tube. I was using some serious force and couldn't get it to clip on. Any advice?
As for the how I like the amp... I bought it used and it came loaded with a 10" Celestion Gold. Started with tone knob at 12 o clock and the volume at 9 o clock. Thought that was pretty nice. Just a tad bit of dirt. Bumped the volume up to noon and started getting any idea what this amp was all about. Bumped the volume up to 3 o clock and struck a G5 chord. I was grinning ear to ear. Now that's some tone! I am extremely pleased with the amp. I know everyone said this amp was loud, but I wasn't expecting it to be loud! I didn't really know what to expect though. Definitely need an attenuator for home. This is my first good amp. I've had a lot of so-so amps Blues Jr, Rebel 30, etc... Now I know how good something can really sound. Even my pedals sound better. The amps natural overdrive is really something else though. Just beautiful. Dr Z has won my heart.

Those tube holders can be difficult to attach. You have to make sure they're on the 'correct' side before installing the tubes.
Glad you like the amp.

You can get a little more overdrive at lower levels ( sorta ) when the tone knob is around 2 o'clock as it adds in more bass frequency and gets some mud splatterin'. I love my Ghia and am excited that your first impression was a good 'un

it came loaded with a 10" Celestion Gold. That's what I have. I play mostly new country with a tele. I keep my volume around 11:00 and my tone around 11-12:00.
