Hi all,
Lately my wreck has lost a lot of its sparkle. It sounds very nasal and "middy". Thought I was just me but did some recordings and compared them with ones from few years back.
I just put new power tubes, not much difference.
Also, can no longer hear any real difference between comfort and speed settings.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Maybe the phase inverter? Do you have a 12AX7 you could swap and try?

Changed PI. Sounds better. Still not hearing any difference between comfort and speed. Maybe I'm going deaf. I remember when I first got it it was pretty obvious when you switched the two.

Usually comfort will break up earlier and feel a bit softer. Speed is more percussive.

You say you changed tubes, which ones? Sounds like a pre-amp tube going south, try three fresh Tung-Sol 12AX7's and use the best one in V1. Is this a combo or Silver set Z Wreck? Z

Thanks for the input Doc!
I put a fresh set of tung sols in (also a fresh set of power tubes as well). Definitely not as lively as it had been . I'm going to bring the amp out on a gig tonight and see how it does.

IME the differences between comfort/speed weren't so much a tone change as it was a change in feel and response of the amp. Speed had more punch and headroom, slightly more high end snap.

You may have already thought of this but....
If you have been gigging with the amp for a while you might try rolling all of the pots on the amp back and forth a number of times to clean the wipers. Because I don't change the settings too much in my amps from gig to gig and I have had problems with either corrosion and crud building up in pots (volume, tone) and causing a similar problem to what you are describing. Give it a try and see if you hear a difference.
