My 2 cents on the name is to keep the JAZ name in some form but add an extension of some sort around it as mentioned to differentiate the new design model from the discontinued model. Similar to what others have mentioned such as JAZ Deluxe, JAZ Tremolux (sure you can't use that name though) or JAZ Tremolo Deluxe (TD), JAZ TD, JAZ Dlx Trem, JAZ Trem Dlx etc. Also change the font to freshen it up.

I don't care what you call it. I love my JAZ and would buy the second version sight unheard. If it could be a little smoother, and able to be less bright easier that would be even better, maybe bright switch?
But on the name. I like the added letters to sports cars, can't think of a better one for a Reverb, Tremolo amp better than R/T like the old Dodge moniker. Maybe JAZ R/T? Something like that..

I'm excited to see this discontinued but popular amp come back to life! I like some of the name suggestions like JAZ R/T and JAZ Deluxe. I'd definitely keep the JAZ name, although the 20/40 I don't think is essential to have in the name.
Just a thought Doc, but while you're dusting off old amp designs, what about the Mazerati V1? I think almost everyone would drool over a higher-headroom Ghia, and i know you could combine the best of the V1 and V2 designs to come up with a killer new version. I love that Ghia tone control!

I appreciate the Doc's interest in reducing the weight. However I changed my combo to a head and it is still a load to handle. The main cause is the iron in this amp and there is nothing that can be done about that without negatively effecting it's performance.

And all this time I just thought I was getting weaker... I'll happily take the heft for the abundance of goodness. Just spent about an hour making noise with my JAZ. An absolute tone-monster.

Yes I have been dusting off the old JAZ, and making some nice upgrades. I have a new 12" speaker that is being developed by Eminence and myself, great 60's Fender type tone. A new lighter cab, using the techniques found in the Z Wreck 1X12 combo. Re groomed the circuits some , to what I believe is a nice smooth tone with a slant to the Fender Deluxe Reverb with the capability of 40 watts or more Deluxe like 20 watts in one package, a true JR/SR in one box. The tube driven Tremolo is amazing on this amp if I must say so myself, I have never heard " Crimson and Clover" played so many times, yes " Over and Over". The reverb is intensified which should satisfy the die hard Fender players, and the combination of Trem and Reverb is the coolest effect near Leslie like.
I have thought about a name change do to the problems in acceptance of the old name " is this amp for Jazz only?", but it is a tip of the hat to my father , may he rest in peace, who started me on this path. What do you guys think, re-release it as the new improved JAZ 20/40 ?
I'm looking for an early 2015 availability.
DR.Z So cool to hear this Doc, I for one would love it if you re-released a new improved JAZ and kept the name in honor of your father. I could see if it was a really drastic redesign / major change to maybe rename it... but I also think in time folks will get that it's NOT just a "jazz" amp. So glad you're revisiting this GREAT design of yours!!

Maybe if you sent me one I could be inspired with a new name.

I am SO happy to hear this! But I am a little on edge about changes, not that I don't trust Doc. The original JAZ was my favorite amp in the Z line. I've passed on a couple of used in hopes that Doc would put it back out there again one day.

Have the newly designed 12 inch speaker for it. Also the lighter 1x12 cab.

One request: Doc, is it possible to expand the lower range of the tremolo speed? Found myself wishing for some real slow stuff the other day.

It is relay hard to slow the tube driven osculated trem. much more without a long delay in the start up. It's all about RC networks and the larger the cap values the slower the oscillator will wobble, but like all engineering nothing is free and the slower pulse causes a longer start up. To some it's no big deal, but to others it unacceptable.
I have redesigned the circuit some, now the oscillator comes on faster and the pulses are slower, win/win. I think you will like the new sound of the Trem as well as it's almost instant start.

The weight issue is important to a lot of players and seems to have fallen on mostly deaf ears in the amp building community. I'm mighty glad to see the esteemed Doc mention the lighter cabinet. +1 million, yes yes yes

Well, while I'm on the wish list: Perhaps put in the EQ bypass a la MAZ and Remedy. Just sayin'.

Agreed on the positivity regarding the return of the JAZ! That has always been one of my favorites of all the Z's I've had occasion to play through. Only downside is now I gotta consider between a Therapy and holding out for the JAZ update! Great news!

Now that is something I'd be interested in as a mod to my current JAZ. I hope it will be available.

Yes, I thought of that also. I'd be OK with a second f/s that's identical to the one-button used for bypass switching on other amps. I suppose it could be an option, but I know this may be too challenging from a production viewpoint, Doc.

Z's dealer in Milano (Andrea at 440hz) provided me with a JAZ for some dates in Italy once, it took me a minute to get used to it after being a MAZ addict for so long, but I thoroughly enjoyed it after getting it dialed in. The dual power awitch is something we all need for gigs, and the thought of a 20 watter with onboard 'verb AND trem reaaly blows my dress up, I must say. I presume there's quite a difference between the new JAZ and the Therapy (both being 6L6 based) which I have never had the opportunity to play around with, the difference being that the Therapy has more gain on tap? Anybody have intimate knowledge?

Guess I'll start saving lots of pennies. I've had my JAZ for several years now. Can't remember exactly when, but it was right after I head it was being discontinued. I wanted a new one, and had it on my "must buy" list, the discontinue notice prodded my to buy it earlier than I was going to. Sure glad I did. It's a great amp and has become my favorite all time amp. After a few years of playing it I have a few things that in a dream world I would make different. Not much of a list here . I hope this comes across as not complaining, but just customer feedback. The foot switch cable for the trem/verb uses rca type jacks like a reverb tank connection. I've busted mine off once and damaged it another being ham fisted yanking the footswitch out of the back of the amp. Personally I think a 1/4" stereo jack would be better. I also wouldn't mind a high/low input like the MAZ. Being a LP player and having owned several MAZ amps I always like the low input better for buckers. That's about it. I have the combo, I'll get the "reissue" as a head!

I always wanted to pick up a Jaz so i think I will finally do that when it's re issued. Here's to hoping the Doc decides to re-issue the RxES! That is my favorite amp hands down... unless of course someone has a Red RxES they would like to sell me!?!?
