I love the ghia tone, but sometimes I do find that I wish it had a treble knob so I could add just a touch more treble. I don't like to roll the tone to far too left because I like the low mids I get at 1 to 2:00 on the dial. But when I get the tone control where I like, it sends to reduce the highs just a hair too much. I've thought of removing the bypass cap similar to the newer ghia circuits. This would allow more highs to come through.

My Anni. has plenty but I've heard the older ones are not as bright. If speakers do not do it how about a EQ pedal?

Yea I have an eq on the board but I use it for mandolin. I have a wgs blackhawk in it right now. I've thought of trying a gold. I bet that would add a little brightness.

The gold may be just what you're looking for. I've never had a problem getting enough treble out of my Ghia - the opposite in fact. I replaced the JJ's with TAD EL84-STR's and that took enough of the edge off for me. Just wondering if tubes might be a factor - it's certainly cheaper to try swapping them than picking up a gold, although I haven't heard too many people be dissatisfied with it, especially in a Z amp. I know I'd like to have one.

What speaker you using with the Ghia, jess? In many cases, I've found the speaker to be the final piece of the puzzle when it comes to getting the EQ just right. Seems especially true with the Ghia, having only the 1 tone knob.

If you would have posted this a month ago I would have gladly traded you for the Ghia I had...it was a newer model and I didnt bond with it like I had the older ones...it was too clean and too much high end bite for me.

I like this one the majority of the time. Just every once in a while I find myself needing a bit more highs or high mids. But overall I still like the tone and voicing.

That reminds me, too--what tube do you have in the second (V2) spot of your Ghia?
I owned two Ghias in the past (a racing stripe model, as well as a 25th anniversary) before realizing how much effect the phase inverter tube has. On my third Ghia (also a newer racing stripe model) I took out the12AX7 from V2 and installed an NOS 5751 because (A) that's what the Ghia was designed for and (B) I found it a little too harsh & aggressive.
However... if you currently have a 5751 in there, then a 12AX7 could conceiveably change a lot for you--from the low-mids character up to the perceived amount of high-end bite. Just another 2¢ I had to throw in there...

Have you tried a Xotic RC booster? It is a really clean boost that will allow you to add or cut bass and or treble. It also has a little gain on tap that really pushes the Ghia over the top (if needed). Works well as an "always on" pedal or can be used as a solo boost. I have found that it works well with any amp I put it in front of. Especially my Ghia!
