New amp on the way! Excited to have a Carmen Ghia 1x12 enroute. Lucked into a 1x12 on the bay even though I have been eyeing 1x10's as of late. It's my first Dr. Z, so I am pretty stoked to try it out.
Been lurking around here for a couple weeks and am impressed with the super helpful folks here on the pages. (Thanks to John for fielding my initial questions!) Been going through the CG pages and am about to get to double digits.
I'll post some thoughts/questions when it arrives.
Thanks!

Thanks guys! Will post some thoughts and pix maybe by weeks end. (I hope!)
Question: Not sure if I will dig the speaker loaded in the amp, a hemp cone. Sitting around here I have a v30 in 8ohm, and a g12h30 and Cele Gold both in 16ohm. Really want to try the Gold. Is it ok to try it out for a few minutes without any problem?

s360guitarist and I have been exchanging a few PM's. He's got several other amps. I told him he won't play them after he gets the Ghia and he'll end up selling several of them!
The amp's arriving with a tone tubby. I had one and couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Others should confirm that it's alright to use a speaker with MORE resistance than the jack calls for.
But personally, I'd give that V30 a try. However...(and you'll have to answer this), do you know how broken in that V30 is? They don't sound so great when they're not broken in. To nasal.
Years ago, I had a V30 I bought new. Just hated it. (It wasn't broken in) I took it out and let it sit on a shelf for two years. Then I took it, wrapped it in a sleeping bag then hooked it up to my PA head and ran bass/drum loops through it for 40 hours. Really beat the SNOT out of it. Had the cone flying back and forth about 1 inch. Put it back in a cabinet and tried it out. Wow! What a difference! The tone was now balanced.
Anyway, I'm hijacking this thread, lets get back to your new amp!

^Hijack away I say!
Ya, I may have been unclear in our PM's. I HAD several other amps. Had to sell everything to pay bills due to layoffs and shutdowns...BUT, when the UK Vox ac15 and the 62 Princeton etc., etc., went away, I found myself left with banging on a Tele and stomping on a pre-mos FD2 and DD20 through a little Pathfinder loaded with a Weber Blue.
After learning to embrace a minimalist approach to things I got to thinking, when things turn around, what amp follows suit? There ya have it - here I am.
Thanks all, Alan.

You can always get a pre-broken in Vintage 30 from Avatar speakers. They call it their Hellatone 60. Will save you a couple days and some noise.

Congrats on the Ghia, such a simple and great sounding amp. I agree with the broken in V30, until you have a chance to hear it through a C Blue. That may get your attention:)

^Indeed jb, The Cele Blue is one of my favorite, it runs neck and neck with the Gold IMO.
As mentioned above, the Gold that I have is 16ohm. The only speaker I have sitting around here that is 8ohm is a v30. In the end, and due to volume constraints, I may have to go with a Greenback before it is all said and done.
Regardless, this waiting for an amp to show is just not fun at all...

I actually ran my Ghia with a 12" tone tubby for a few years. I liked it just fine. I actually appreciated the fact that it tamed a hit of high end from the Ghia, which I sometimes find bright. I'm running a 12" celestion Creamback now, and like that, too. When I got my ghia, it had a V30. I liked that one less than the other two aforementioned. It was really loud in comparison.

congrats on your Z acquisition. My Ghia has the 12" Celestion blue and while i love the amp and just about anything the Doc makes, i'm not too happy with the brightness of the Blue. What kind of guitars/pup's you going to run into the amp?

The Ghia is a fantastic and unique sounding amp which is easy to use and enjoy. If you don't like the speaker it comes with you will have no trouble selling it and trying a different one. Many of us have had to try a speaker or two before we found the one that scratched the exact sound we wanted. The Ghia is my favorite amp on the planet Earth and I hope you find it that way as well.

What kind of guitars/pup's you going to run into the amp? My only guitar atm is a modded MIM Tele. It is loaded with a Seymour Duncan Little 59 stacked HB in the bridge and a Seymour Duncan mini-hum in the neck. I slapped 12-56's on there so it is a bit of a beast.

Have the Ghia now and had an hour or so yesterday to try the amp out.
WOW! What an amp! Here is the first impressions type of post:
Such great articulation on the notes. Since I am not much of a lead player, and really am only doing chords and arpeggios that is much needed.
LOUD! Sweet geez it is true what they say about the Z-Watts. Ran the amp yesterday at about 9 o'clock, but had to dial it down a bit for more of the typical home playing. I ran it a bit at 8am and hit it with a boost for some nice crunch.
TONE! Really dug the tone below noon as it brought in a bit more chime. (Something I am more used to with previous amps. Lots of great tonal variation here.
Gonna try a UK Greenback in it later today to knock some of the db's back a bit. Will report back of course!

My favorite too! It blows me away how good this amp sounds with any guitar or any speaker.

Also my favorite. I don't even know what to do with amps that have a full tone stack....I just think about my tone knob and wish all the other ones would go away. The Ghia also really expresses the speaker along with all the guitars. It's just a damn fine amp.

Glad you like your new amp. The Ghia really is something special. I scored one recently with a 10" Alnico Gold. I've had her for 6 days now and I still say wow everytime I fire it up. I moved the 5751 to V1, and the 12AX7 to V2. It sounds absolutely glorious with my Strat. I've never heard a Strat sound so good. Sounds great with my humbucker guitars as well, but there's something special about a Ghia and a Strat.

Thanks all! lmill999. Did you score that off of Reverb? I wanted a 1x10 to keep the weight down and may still go that route. But alas, all is well here in new Z-World.

Congrats on getting a Ghia. It's been said "Everyone should own a Ghia!"
I haven't had mine out for a gig in a while, so I decided to take it last night. Volume and tone both at noon; 1 click on the Brake Lite (attenuator). Les Paul. Heavenly!

I pretty much buy all my stuff off reverb at this point. Always good deals going on. I've never owned a 1x10 before, but I'm really diggin' it.
