Just picked up my first Dr. Z amp. Quite a change from the Mesa I've been using - I'm still learning how to to dial it in. It's a 1x12 with a greenback in it. So far, I'm surprised at how much I like the greenback. It's not normally a speaker I get along with, but it sounds really good in this amp.

And here's a pic: Any tips on setting the EQ on this? I'm used to a Mesa TA-15 and this amp is a completely different animal. I play a Ric 620 and a LP Junior Double cut with P-90s, so mid-rangey, medium output guitars, usually rolled back to 6-7 on volume and play power pop/classic rock mostly. I like a chimey, edge of breakup tone that I can push to heavy distortion with a pedal or roll back to clean on with a volume pedal or the guitar.

Congrats! Give yourself some time to get used to it. The Z Amps really shine when you cut thru the mix with a band. Enjoy! Todd

Bass at 9:00, Mids almost maxed and Treble between 11:00 and 1:00 does it for me. That's with a blue in it. The trick that took me a long time to figure out with the Rx jr was to crank the mids.

Welcome to the forum and to the world of Z amps. I picked up my Rx Jr this past summer and really like it. I ended up selling my Stangray as a result.
I have a head version and play through either a Z 1x12 cab with a celestion G12M-65 creamback, closed back currently, or a Z 2x12 cab with a gold and a G12H-75 creamback. I usually play through the 1x12 especially at gigs. Primary play my tele with the Rx Jr but sometimes my Les Paul.
My settings right now are: Bass = 6 Mid = 4 Treble = 3 Volume 4 or 5 Master at home low but live usually half way (knob line pointing straight up)
Also play with air brake on 2 live, 2 clicks down, and sometimes use at home.
Enjoy the amp as it as well as the other Z amps are good ones.

Thanks, all! I played it out last night for the first time. My fears melted away - what a great amp live. It sounded really amazing! I had a little trouble getting it to break up on it's own, so I'll need to tinker some more with it and play with pedal combinations, but overall I was very pleased. The boominess I was getting at rehearsal disappeared on stage (in fact, I found my self turning the bass up!) so I think our practice space just amplifies the bass a bit (plus I'm used to a closed back cab).
What kind of overdrive pedals do you all use with yours? I have been using a Skreddy Lunar Module set pretty low for overdrive - it works well with my Mesa for that, but sounds too much like full on fuzz with the Dr. Z. I have a Moog Boost pedal, but that really makes it louder (guess I have it set for too much headroom . . . ?) The settings in the pic are pretty close to what I've been using with the boost off.

Congrats on the new Rx Jr! I bought mine a couple of months ago and couldn't be happier....definitely a unique and killer sound. As for overdrive pedals, I'm currently using a Mesa Flux Drive and a Mojo Hand FX Rook. I just got the Rook a couple of weeks ago but it's an amazing pedal....a nice transparent OD that is giving me that different sound that I was looking for. The Mesa rocks and I use it for a more saturated overdrive. I also have an Xotic Effects BB Preamp....it's a killer pedal too but I decided to put the Rook on the pedal board with the Mesa for now just because they give me completely different OD tones.

It's wicked for sure! I get the privilege of standing across the room from Mike when we rehearse...sweet!
