Thought I would give an update. So the SG showed up a few weeks ago. I noticed something odd when tuning and figured out the tuner bushings were very loose and the bridge had saddle issues. I contacted the seller and he said to have it repaired (he would pay for it all) and if I did not like it he would give me my money back.
So, the seller contacts Lance Keltner who takes my guitar over to Ed Reynolds (Eric Johnson & David Grissom's tech). The seller kept in touch with Ed and Me through the whole process. Ed filled the tuner holes with maple and then drilled new holes and installed new tuners did lacquer touch up and then fixed the bridge issues too. He also did a fret mill to get it just perfect and did a set up of course.
I picked the guitar up on Monday, after work, from Ed Reynold's shop. Have to say Ed is one of the nicest folks I have met. Lance is great as well and I enjoyed seeing where he does all his videos and such when I dropped off the guitar with him originally.
Now Ed lives about an hour from me but I would go back any time. His work is unbelievable and really affordable too.
You can not tell any work was done to the headstock (except the perfect fitting tuners that function as they should). His color matching of the aged Pelham Blue is just perfection.
I am completely impressed with everyone I have dealt with on this guitar. The seller went way beyond what most anyone else would have done....I think. So if you have a chance don't hesitate to deal with Doug at Mountain Cat Guitars in Suffern NY. He really took customer service to a new level. Lance Keltner was a great guy to talk with and very kind to take the guitar to Ed for me. Ed Reynolds is a master at what he does and an artist.
Oh, so how about the SG itself? It is staying here. This thing is a total beast. It weighs between 5 and 6 pounds but hits like 2 tons of bricks and that is with the volume down around 7 on the guitar. So much articulation....those Florance Voodoo 59s are killer. Just like Roscoe said in posts on here. The guitar just plays effortlessly and has a naturally bright acoustic voice (compared to my Les Paul). The only thing I want to do right now is pick up a new case as the old one is in pretty sad shape in some ways.
I could not be happier. Cannot wait to use it on my next Sunday for music.
