With all the recent talk of head conversions I got thinking.
Yup my vision is pretty much the smallest grab and run Z with a 10" Gold.
No extra inches wasted a nice tight fit for chassis and speaker.
I don't know the exact cab measurements yet as I need the chassis measurements to give to Mather.
What do you all think, looking for thoughts, comments, out of the box ideas.

Call Mather first. He already had all the data, on file, needed for my request....

Interesting maddog Peter sent me down the road to get measurements for him, he was thinking current model CG vs LE 25.

Not to stir the pot....but why would you want to take the 25th LE and make it into a 10" combo? The Doc already makes a 10" combo Ghia. (And it's spectacular!)
I don't see where anything is gained. The advantages of a small head are lost when it's put into the 10" combo.

My vision is like the small Vox or Marshall offerings. I might be all wrong but that's my expectation atm.

I have the 1x10 Ghia combo...and I don't think it would be worth the trouble, time and expense to have a custom 1x10 combo cabinet made to fit the LE.
The 10" speaker is the dominant factor here. The transformers and el84 tubes of the LE are pushed closer together, like people in a photo. (Stan, move in closer!) But the height is not changed. So it has to be about the same distance away from the speaker. But when your cab has to be wide enough for a 10" speaker, squishing the amp components closer doesn't provide any bonus....the cab still has to be wide enough for the speaker. You may gain an inch or possible two here or there, but again, I don't know if it's worth the time. That 10" combo's packed in pretty tight.
I'm not familiar with the Vox and Marshall offerings. Well, I take that back, I have a Vox Pathfinder. (1x8 combo) and it's not much smaller than the 1x10 Ghia.
I'm pretty satisfied with my 1x10 combo. Great for hauling to/from the car..etc. Not to mention great tone.
I'll see if I can post a pic or two to show you.

I don't have the measurements of LE and Z headquarters says they didn't keep chassis measurements,
so I'll have to ask someone nicely here who has one. :>)

The Polytone Baby Brute combo I've used since 1988 for jazz has an 8" speaker and projects pretty well. It's about 11x11x12", quite portable and can get pretty loud.
Just a thought.

Can't wait to see it! I dig mine the way it is but I am partial to 12" speakers. I love the LE the master is great to have.

In this pic, you can see how far down the transformer on the left is. There's exactly three inches on each side of the speaker. (left and right) so there could be some reduction there.

Maybe it would be cool to design a 10" cab and some how use the spot where the feet on the bottom of the head cab are to connect it to the top of the speaker cab....kinda like a quick connect/disconnect. Then you wouldn't have to fit it around the speaker....? I don't know just thinking out loud. Custom projects seem cool, why not dream big and go for it...nothing to lose in the end.
have fun, sounds like a neat project.

John in your pic, have your already converted the LE or is that a current CG combo, I ask as aren't the innards different with regards to lay out and component sizes. In this pic, you can see how far down the transformer on the left is. There's exactly three inches on each side of the speaker. (left and right) so there could be some reduction there.

It's the regular current offering of the 1x10 Ghia combo. Here's a front view of the amp. The angle of the camera makes the amp appear bigger. The lower right is a Z-best. Here's a shot at a gig. On top of a 2x12 line6

Since it's from the Z website, most likely the head.

Another pot stirring contribution here, I'm afraid...speaking as a CG 25th owner, I'm unclear just how small any 10" cab can be before there is a serious effect on your tone. My Zilla Dinky 10" cab (with a WGS alnico) is only 18" wide, and about the same height; if you make a cab much tighter than this, you're likely to lose the decent low end the Ghia offers, with portability being the only win. Strike me down if you like, but I also subscribe to the view that a Ghia 1x10" combo is the best option for you - although it feels like you're set on this project! But if you reduce the width and height of a 1x10" cab, you'd have to increase the depth, and then portability is compromised...

For me, I think the Ghia LE chassis in the Z 1x10 cab size would be perfect as a grab and go. Granted, it would take some modification to work. That would be my dream Z amp if it was ever offered but am perfectly content with my Ghia now.

I'm tellin' yah, just find a way to connect it to the top of a smaller cab...would be super cool to connect or disconnect the existing mini head. That way when you want to run it with a 12" or 4x12" cab you just go ...click click unhooked and set on top then rock it !! It may seem even worse but what if it had clasps like a guitar case or an ATA travel case to connect or disconnect?
It's fun tossing out ideas.
