What is your favorite 10" speaker with your Ghia? What and why please. Todd

Well my favorite has been 2x10 with Eminence Legend 10516 wired together for 8ohms because they took a tad off the high end compared to Doc's 10's and are like 98 decibels so they are a good volume for rocking with my head tick tockin so much after words. For a single 10 my only experience is the Red Fang and unless you're wanna rocket in your pocket you'd probably love the Gold that John and everyone raves about.
For me my 12" gold excels in chording and rhythm and my 10" fang excels in single notes. I'm stoked you got the mini bro.

Red Fang. Just make sure that sucker is broken in. It can hang with the best of them.

With the Ghia, I prefer the G10 Greenback. It's got that great "greenback" neutral-but-woody quality to it, with surprisingly strong lows (for a 10" speaker) and the typical Celestion breakup. Perfect fit with my Ghia, IMO.
While I have tried at least 3 other popular 10" speakers with the Ghia (Red Fang 10—didn't like, Ramrod—better, AlNiCo Silver Ten—nice but really weak lows/punch) I have not tried the G10 Gold yet. I suppose it could be "even better" but I'm quite satisfied with the G10 Greenback right now, plus I already have the Gold in a 12.

Yeah I don't know why but I thought with some of the church gigs you do Todd that something like the Greenback might be the right volume and tone. Woody tone sounds nice.

Warehouse Guitar Speakers G10A alnico works really well with my CG25th head...see my thread elsewhere. Definitely a Celestion Gold alternative in my view.

I tried a couple different speakers including a Jensen and another Eminence in my Ghia and ultimately went back to the Red Fang. The Red-Fang/Ghia combo works best for me for both single coils and humbuckers. The extra volume from the RF yields the headroom I need playing live and the upper mid bump helps too. I really missed that upper mid bump when I tried the other speakers.
The Doc puts a whole lot of time into pairing speakers with his amps. 9 times out of 10 I end up agreeing with his selections.

Being in a modern country cover band, I needed something close to that signature single coil cleanish (w just a bit of hair) tone. I did not like the Red Fang. Way too loud and in my case, the mid bump didn't fit. (the short time I used the fang, I thought it was more of a lower mid bump, but that was a few years ago.)
Went with the gold. Less db than the fang and more the signature tone I was looking for.
While the fang was too loud...I would think for my needs the greenback, at 95db, would not be quite enough.

Another vote for the Red Fang. Tried many, always came back to it.

Roscoe, does this include the Carolina blue Mather 1x12 cab that you had made? Are you saying that you've simply returned to the 1x10 format after trying out various 1x12's? (I can't recall if you had discussed this way back when or not.)

Yes, I went back to the original 1 x 10" setup w the Red Fang. I have an "american voiced" Eminence "Lil' Texas" in the baby blue 12" cab and it just wasn't enough. If you look on the spec sheets for that speaker and the RF the LT has a dip around 3K. I have an Eminence "tonkerlite" NEO in my 12" Pro Jr. That probably would have worked but we were using that amp too at the time.

So how did the Greenback and/or Ramrod work out for you?

Greenback wasn't available so it came with a Ramrod.
Its a nice speaker. I don't have any real complaints other than I ready have one in house.

Nice! I'm about to put together a 2x10 with a Weber Blue Pup and Silver Ten. It will primarily be used with my Ghia, and maybe my Swart.

There is great mention of the Red Fang... I'd like to hear it side by side with the Gold... I have used the Gold in a full band set up during rehearsals and it hold it's own with some room to spare! The tone reminds me of my old 58 Tweed Champ... Plenty of bark but cleans ups much better when I roll back the volume!

I went Gold because I have never owned one. I am hoping for some nice sweet top end.
I plan on using this rig to demo my instrument cables

I have the C-gold, the WGS C series, greenbacks... all in 10"... like the RF best with the ghia. It's so amp and pickup/guitar dependent though. btw - the RF 10 is a much better speaker than the RF12 IMHO.

Looks like I will be able to compare a gold and the red fang. I was pm'd this afternoon with the offer of one being loaned to me. Should be fun

A pair of Z 10s Why? Because that's what's been in my cab for the past 7 ears and every time I put a Ghia (or various other amps) thru it, I am happy - specially when using Strats, Teles, LPs, SGs, PRS and even a coupla them EBMM guit-fiddles cheers always, eh Joel

I've got a 2x10 cab with Golds that I just finished breaking in. I like my 2x10 Z cab, but the Gold tens sound fantastic with the Ghia. Not quite as loud, but just as much chime as the 12" Gold. Break-in adds so much, to an already great speaker. Starting with a Ghia doesn't hurt either.
Hard to top Joel's answer though. Gonna have to work on my Z cab next...
cheers also from out here on the coast Todd
