I have heard of some folks using the KT45 for bass. Has anyone had any luck with this and does it have enough headroom? Is there another Dr Z that would make a good bass amp?

I've heard good things about using the KT45 for bass. Given the right speakers it'll be plenty for blues, jazz and country. I don't know about other styles though.

It would have more headroom and wattage than a black face bassman / cab combination.

Thanks. I used a Fender Tone Master for bass for years that I really liked but I am looking for something a bit more portable. I probably ran the Tone Master at around 5 or 6 at the most, usually at around 4 or 5. Do you think that the KT-45 would have that much clean headroom?

Hey there, I, too, am thinking about using my KT45 for a bass amp. Is anybody using this in application, and if so, what kind of speakers are you using? Avatar has a 2x10NEO, but I'm unsure if the Tweeter would be a problem. There's also a Gallien Krueger 4x10 gold. Cheers, -WM>

Most tweeter cabs have a switch or knob to turn the tweeter off. Neo speakers are very bright anyway so i don't see why they would even put a tweeter in one. Neos are usually more efficient than regular speakers. I would really put the emphasis on efficiency in my speaker cab search but not at the expense of losing lows. I used to play with a guy that used a blackface Bassman head with two Mesa 1x15 EV cabs. That rig was really loud and I know a KT45 would be a serious upgrade over the Bassman. I'd suggest taking your head to a well stocked store and trying them out. If you like something you can probably get it for a catalog price from them and still buy local.

a friend and i jammed with a bass player last night. he was not able to bring his rig so i set him up with my KT-45 into a 2x12 with G12H Heritage speakers. i thought it sounded quite good. excellent clarity. we did not play at really loud levels, so i don't know how it would sound if pushed; but in a pinch it worked like a charm. all hail the great KT-45!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool thread. Some guitar amps work wonderfuly for bass tone for recording or low volume gigs.
The guitar player I play also plays bass with a country band and most of the time he plays through a 59SLP100 through the nicestest Ampeg 4x10 you can buy and it sounds unreal!!!! Of course SPL100's have a bass volume on it so it kinda calls out for a bass guitar.
We played a couple punk songs the other day just to blow some steam and he opened it all the way up and it was all distorted and my Z-28 was cranked through the 2x10 and we sounded so outragous. During break we joked about working a up a full set and gigging it in Miami {still alot of punk music being played} to show these crap bands what good punk sounds like. We'd clearly be the best they have ever seen.
But yeah, guitar amps for bass!!!!

Thought I might try to revive this thread Just curious if anyone knows, Could I use an EVM 12L for both guitar and bass? I assume since it is 200 watts, there wouldn't really be any risk in blowing the speaker. Also, generally speaking, is there any potential risk of damage in playing bass through the KT-45?

I'd like to know also about damaging the amp somehow using something other than a guitar. I'd love to know what a Rhodes sounds like through this thing -Will

I tried my KT45 with bass and the EVM12L.
It can push it purty hard... I have a home-made ported 2x10 good for about 70 watts at 4 ohm and it sounds a lot better than the EVM12L to my ears. My 10" speakers are for a bass amp and I think the EVM12L is for higher mids. My Black Widow 15" bass speaker kick arse with the KT45 and a P-Bass!
But in all honesty, I prefer a Solid State Bass Amp with a tube pre-amp for bass... for my style anyways.
