Anyone using a Gold or gold style speaker with their Monza? I like the idea of the WGS Blackhawk and was just wondering if anyone else was using a similar combo. Heck with all the Therapy talk out their maybe some of us Monza owners who want to hold onto our money should just talk about the Monza that we already have What styles of music are ya'll using your Monza with? Have you ever thought of selling your Monza but then you realized that you could never ever get THAT sound out of you head and no pedal could ever REALLY do it? Or?................

Funny you should mention this. I don't want to take things too far off topic, but I've been getting the bug to try out a gold with my Z's lately too. The bulk of opinions I've seen on this forum have been that they tend to work well with most if not all Z's. Luckily I have a fellow forumite nearby that has been kind enough to offer up his convertible cab with a gold for me to try out. Of course if you find one used you should be able to sell it for what you bought it for minus shipping if it's not to your liking. I'd love to hear your opinions on it with both your Monza and Ghia.

I have a gold and a blachawk 50. I haven't tried the gold through my ghia yet but I really like it with the BH. Also ran my Wreck through the BH loaded cab and I gotta say, in several different ways I seem to prefer the BH, and it's not as broken-in as the Gold. The BH has all the alnico goodness but is a tad bit sweeter on the top end.

I just received my Celestion Gold 12" from V2LEADGTR...arrived beautiful and ready to rock! But it's nap time around me casa so I've just been able to use the ol' Monza with the MV way down.
When lil' jr wakes up so will the Monza and a forthcoming report of Gold>Monza>PCNS cable>Les Paul P90's will resume. I'll also run the Ghia thru it so I can finally hear what John has been talking about for all these years.
Gold gold gold gold gold gold gold YEAH !!!

Well I will probably try to put a video together to put in that section in the next week or so but I'll try to describe my thoughts so far. The Monza has been a love / like relationship. I've never not liked it, but I don't always love it. I almost got the G12H-30 for it, but I think I wanted the Gold because I wanted to hear it with my Ghia too. When I bought the Monza I wanted to use it WITH the Ghia in an ABY fashion, but the 10" Red Fang that came with the Monza didn't really mate well with my 2x10 Eminence Legends 10516's that I love to use with the Ghia. That's what prompted the speaker search. Okay now to the Gold
The Gold replaced a 12" Legend 1258 (which had to much highs for me) so immediately I felt like the Gold was probably the most balanced speaker I've played yet. Without being able to A/B all the different speakers I've tried over the years, I guess take it with a grain of salt, but the Gold seems to be very balanced. I didn't feel like anything was out of place with it. The Monza to me seems like it has a distinct voice of it's own and the Gold is close to fitting with it, my 10" Red Fang compares closely to the 12" Gold except a little louder and more mid to low prominent where the Gold seems a little more open to the highs but balanced. The Fang grunts more and the Gold chimes more. The Gold seems to handle chords and rhythm better because it's more balance and open but the Fang does single notes better because it has more weight and force.
The Gold with the Monza matches the Ghia with the 2x10 Legends really well. Which is nice for the ABY setup I do with the duo I've been playing in ( just me and a drummer )
The Ghia sounds great in every speaker and of course was fantastic with the Gold. I actually think that a Radial Cabbone with the Ghia switching between the Gold for rhythm and the Fang for lead would be awesome. That 2-3 decibel boost that the Fang has and the little bit more mid/bottom end really shines for single notes.
That's prolly enough blabbing. If anyone actually read the whole thing god bless yah. I'll do a video or something to post in the proper section later for posterity sake. I think the Gold helps me with my Monza tuning and tubes will be the next thing to get it to be what I was hoping it would be for me. That said ironically with the MV the Monza is the best home amp I've ever owned and might just be a keeper because of that, either way the Gold is a keeper.

Great report Brother. Interesting comparison between the Fang and the Gold. You seem to have found the same thing I (and many others) did about those two speakers, but you worded it much better. I had a feeling you'd dig the Gold. Now, where'd my Monza go?
