Wow, what a fun amp! It certainly begs to be cranked! I have been playing it a little using my Maz Jr as the cab and she sounds fantastic! Certainly brighter than my Maz and voiced a little different as well. I had the MV at noon on the back panel and the sweet spot for me was to have the volume around 3 o'clock and dialed in the eq to take out the brightness of my Esquire. This amp belongs to my band mate, he just picked it up and has a new Avatar cab on the way for it...he was kind enough to let me hang on to it. So, I finally got another Z convert!! YAY!!! I took a short video clip of the amp that I'll post later...never even touched my pedals on this one...it's something I could almost get away without pedals for. I like this amp's breakup over my Maz Jr's. I just might have to keep an eye out for one of my own.

Nice. I have had my Rx jr for a few months now and really like it every time I play it. Live I also play with the master half way and I have the vol also half way at 12 o'clock. Air brake on 2. This way I have enough cleans when desired with my tele, and then can add pedals for overdrive flavor. I am really digging my xotic ac booster with the Jr. The gain on the pedal is maybe at 9 o'clock, so not much and it just sounds so sweet. Kick in the overdose for lead boost with the ac booster pedal and it gets even better. I have the ac booster configured at unity volume, not volume boosted, just to add overdrive.
Though I never was able to a/b test the Rx with my Maz Jr, I like the Rx much better than my Maz. The Maz is a great amp, but for my tastes the Rx does it for me. I really like my Stangray, but it was just too loud most of the time with no master volume. To me, the Rx Jr is kind of a Stangray Jr. I had both amps and a/b tested them together and got the Rx Jr dialed in to sound very similar to the Ray. I knew I had something then with the Rx Jr.
Yeah you might consider keeping a look out for one. I have seen a few pop up lately, both ES and Jrs.

Two greenbacks or creambacks would be the bomb with this head. I ran my old head through a Z open back 212 loaded with a g12h30 and a blue and it did not disappoint. When I got the 112 combo I tried a bunch of different speakers - my favorites being the greenback and weber ceramic silverbell.

I liked my RX Jr when I had it but I didn't bond with it - probably because of the speakers I had at the time. I sold it and got my Z28.

My main gigging cab right now is a Z 1x12 which I have loaded with a G12M-65 creamback and currently playing closed back. Sounds great. I also have a 2x12 Z open back with a gold and a G12H-75 and this combo also sounds excellent with the Rx Jr. Have not been playing the 2x12 as much since the G12M-65 is less efficient and thus can turn the amps up just a little bit more.

I can't remember what Mike ordered in his cab...I think one Vintage 30 and a G12H30...I have no idea the impact a speaker makes on this stuff...all I know is the Tone Tubby equipped Maz Jr cab sounds great under the Rx

Hey Z-men! Well, as Mark N said, he has converted another player to a Z. I've done a tonne of research and did decide to go with an Avatar 2x12 loaded with a Vintage 30 and a G12H-30, with the convertible back option just to mix to sound up a bit more. I'm waiting for the cab so in the meantime, Mark is babysitting the Rx Jr. Can't wait to set this up and play it live! So far, the Z stuff rocks!

The Avatar is a nice cabinet and the V30 and G12H are a good combo. Make sure you break those speakers in nicely.

Welcome to the forum Mike!
I too like to mix speakers, seems to cover more territory.
I have a well broken in V30 in a Z 1x12 with the Ghia, it's a great speaker with that set up.

I have a Z open back with a V30 and a G12H30 for my Rx Jr; great combination. Tried an Avatar 1x12" with a Greenback and it was awesome as well; just a slightly different flavor (brought out a little more Marshall than Vox).
Congrats on the new amp! Don't be afraid to try 'unconventional' tone stack settings; what sounds great to your ears may not always look right on the knobs. I suppose thats true for any amp, but it definitely applies to the Prescriptions.
