I met up with Josh from the Forum this afternoon. I swapped my Remedy for his SRZ65 LE - i think both parties are happy with the swap. Here are several pics of my "new" amp: BTW - Josh - you have some pretty good chops! Is there a website which shows when and where you are playing??

Enjoy the SRZ Mike. She sure can rock out. I recently put 3 ANOS GE 12ax7 preamp tubes from the late 50s into my LE and tone got even better.

I hear KT-77's are killer in these (or, all SRZ's really).

This amp has a Weber Copper Cap in it. Just wondering if I should replace it with GZ34 rectifier? Any one have any experience with them? If I changed it out would I have to rebias it? If so, maybe I'd try the KT77s.

The copper top will make the amp stiffer with less sag. How much would depend on what the GZ34 was putting out. I would check the bias. Usually the solid states put out a touch more than tubes. The tube may still be within specs, just biased a little colder with the tube rectifier. I think the SRZ plays nicely when it is stiffer. Makes it respond a little more like a Marshall. KTs with a solid state rectifier will likely give you a killer firm low end. Wait that sounds like the commercial for some exercise product.

Hey Mike, I'm glad you're happy with the swap. I definitely am! I played the Remedy for 6 hours after you left...kinda wish I would have tried one sooner! Hopefully I'll be able to get up your way in the next month or two to try out some more of these great sounding prizes! as for the upcoming gigs, there isn't a website yet but I'll get on them to make that happen. Great to meet you, I'm sure I'll be seeing you again soon!
thanks!
Josh

Hey Mike, the Teye I sold was the gold one with the aluminum plating on it. It was prototype #01. It was a beautiful guitar but I never play it and my wife suggested that it's a lot of money to be hanging on a wall not being touched! I did very well with the sale so I'm thinking of paying some bills, buying Vegas airfare, and probably that 2x10 or 2x12 maz jr!

I have been on the fence about my 96' big box SRZ, however I hooked into it lastnight using my trusty PRS DGT , Man oh man ! the thought of ever being without this amp..... not!!!! I too am a fan 77's they give the amp more bottom tame the treble and give it more cremey mids. I have been using an old set of Mullard 34's as of late because I acquired them for FREE yes Free they were given to me by a good friend who insisted I find out what all the HYPE was about. I also run NOS RCA black plate 12AX7's and I use a Mullard GZ34 well worth it. My SRZ is the most versatile amp I own. If I need cleans I can roll the gain back Crank the Volume if I want grind I just push it with my board, every tone from AC/DC to Modern Gain Tones. I have always wanted an LE however just wandering if it would stack up to my Old original?

Have had the SRZ65 RC and the LE (as well as a 6545 and a modern production SRZ) my vote is the RC followed closely by LE. (Though they were all close). When you had the KT77 what bias did you use??

SAME BIAS SETTINGS AS THE 34'S, I run mine a lil on the hot side 34-36Ma is what it calls for but I usaually set it about 37.5 ish it makes the tubes SING!!!!!!! Yeah I forgot you had Chillicats RC!! WOW if you could see it now! its KILLER, mY good friend drew had it housed in a Head Shell, The 77's were just meant for that amp. I don't know why the DR, doesn't offer as an option? he's the one that turned me on to em. They just make the Amp more punchier and smoother. I been digging my 34's but they are original mullards so..... I use the GOLD LIONS they seem to sound the best and last quite sometime, give them a try, you will find the Copper cap will not be needed IMO it may be too bassy. My SRZ also has footswitchable reverb makes the amp more dimensional with just a touch not too much!!! keep me posted let me know what the outcome is. I will own an LE one Day the SEXY LOOK of the RED/SILVER is too cool!
