Hello all. Been a while since I've been here , haven't been playing much these days but I just bought a prescription es head and naturally I came here for some info and was surprised it's been discontinued. The amp has the master mod already done and looks to be in great shape. Now I just have to figure out a cab for it. So why no more production for these and the Jr ? I also noticed not to many talk about the amp anymore . Did I make a mistake in buying this thing ? Last Z I had was a stangray years ago and hoping this thing will sound close to it

The Prescription ES is a great amp even though it's been discontinued. Doc has a small shop with limited resources. In order to release a new amp an old one usually is discontinued. It'll get you close to SR but not right on.

I really regret selling my RxJr... It was awesome. I really want to find a nice RxES, I miss that percussive in your face tone.

I got lucky and found a blond one , can't wait to try it out especially with the master volume option . I'm hoping it ends my search of amps , tried out a new ac30c2 and a fender bassman Ltd and they are great amps but just not the sound I have in my head. I just know I'm missing that Z tone I had with the stangray and few other Z amps I had years ago. So far the ray and Z-28 are my fav's. Now trying to figure out a cab for this baby. Leaning towards a 212 open back with one alnico and one ceramic of some kind

I just picked one up a couple of weeks ago and absolutely love it. I may send it in to the good Doctor to have the ppimv mod done to save my hearing a bit as the amp is LOUD! Lol. It sounds so good.

I picked up a Rx Jr from the BST section a couple of months ago and I really like. I always wanted to try a Rx so took the chance on it. I am glad that I did. I did a/b comparison testing between my Stangray and RxJr with a headbone amp switcher into the same cab to allow me to go back and forth quickly during setting changes. I got the RxJr dialed in to sound extremely close to the Ray. I was surprise on how close they are, but of course, they are different amps, thus won't sound exactly the same. Basically need to dial the mids way back on the Rx to get into Ray territory as the Ray is such a scooped amp. I had the mids on the RxJr in the 7 - 8 o'clock range.
Though the Ray was one of favorite amps, with the tones so similar, I recently sold the Ray. The Ray at 30 watts and no master volume was usually too much for my needs, including playing live.
The overdose feature on the Rx is really great as a lead boost.
I have two Z cabs that I use with the RxJr. A 2x12 open back with a gold and a g12h-75 creamback; both 100 db sensitivity. Also have a 1x12 convertible cab with a g12h-65 creamback; lower sensitivity than 100, 97 iirc. I usually play with closed back with my current band and primarily play the 1x12 only live now as we mic everything and use in ear monitors. If I purchase another mic I could use the 2x12 cab so that I get both speakers in my mix.
After getting my RxJr I had similar thoughts of why was this amp discontinued? Such great tone imo. But I get the limited resources and the ability to only offer so many products at the same time.

Thanks so much for the info, maybe a dumb question but is there a huge difference in between the 1x12 and 212 cabs. Also I've heard that the zbest might not be the best for this amp because of the closed back but was thinking I could make a semi open back panel to try if I end up with one. My other option at this point is a jdesign open 212 then decide on speakers. Amp will be set fairly clean and use pedals for dirt . Having a hard time deciding on a cab setup

With the ray a few years ago I used a mojo 212 open back with a gold and g12h30 and it seemed to sound great everywhere. Indoors , outdoors at home . Just was awesome

Hey congrats on new tone machine !!! I don't have Rx, but I think you'd get more from a dual speaker cab. More cone surface space sounds better to me, warmer and wider or something like that. Has the amp arrive yet?

Unboxed it today but no cab to plug it in to yet. So in a rush to find something but want to make the right choice . Driving me crazy it's setting here and can't fire it up

Unboxed it today but no cab to plug it in to yet. So in a rush to find something but want to make the right choice . Driving me crazy it's setting here and can't fire it up That sounds painful. So much excitement with a new amp and no way to play it. Maybe you can hit a local guitar center or other music store just to play it a little.
I play my RxJr on the clean side too, volume half and master half for gigs with air brake on 2. I use an Xotic AC booster with just a little bit of gain and it sounds so sweet. Kick on the overdose and it sounds even sweeter with the AC booster.
I agree with Simpleton, for playing a room, sound coverage wise a 2x12 just sounds better overall; a wider spread of the sound, not so directional. Then with the 2x12 you could run the same or different speakers as we discussed. I like my 2x12 as I get the chime of the gold and the lower end of the ceramic creamback. My 1x12 is a bit more portable though and as I said, with me just using in ear monitors and not playing the room with my amp, behind a plexi shield, the single creamback 65 speaker sounds great. The 1x12 takes up less stage space too with some of the small stages we sometimes play. At home I switch between the two cabs.
I play my 1x12 closed back currently with the RxJr and my SRZ and it sounds great. However, though I have not owned or played through one, I am also not sure the Z Best would be a good fit for the RX. Not due to the closed back but more for the ported design of the amp. I personally would not try to then make it a modified open back design. I have also heard that the cab is loud due to the port on the cab really throwing the sound.
