Like I'm 17 again waiting for show day! "The Smoke" are playin' @ a campground in Leroy,NY not too far from me Saturday, 8/9. Any fans of Southern Party Rock, need to check these Georgia boys out. Oh yeah, they play killer licks and their tone is pretty good...but
Lead singer, master riffer Charlie Starr plays through a Germino classic45. The other guitar player(Paul Jackson, I think), plays through some model of an Orange. I can only imagine how much better they would sound w/ Z's up there! I'm seein' Remedy, kt45, or maybe rt.66, heck maz18 might even work! They seem to go for the old Marshall sounds. If I got the chance to talk w/ them, I would bring it up! Btw, I dvr'd their axs tv concert(live @the Ogden), and watch it almost daily! What do you think Doc?...Greg

Hey 6stranger, never meant to dis the dote by not putting it in the BBS gear "wish they would play" list. Truth is, I'm new to Z's. I picked up my first,(a maz18 2x12), just a month or so ago! I just listened to some antidote YouTube clips, sounds huge, and remedyish. The dote definitely belongs in The Smoke's back line! Rock on...Greg

Hey Lt; I will give a report! Sucky part is I bought lawn seats(never been to this place), I'm assuming that means they are @ the back. 4 bands playing, long drive back to Buffalo! Really looking forward to this, 4 young kids, no band any longer and rarely get out. Go BBS.

Lead singer, master riffer Charlie Starr plays through a Germino classic45. I can see 'Smoke riffin' some Z for sure!! ....but heck.....listening & watching Charlie was one reason I bought a Germino! btw, Greg Germino told me Charlie plays a Lead55. Welcome to the land of Z! Great way to start off with that Maz Jr!! A modern day classic. Enjoy that 'Smoke show~

Markt, I stand corrected on Charlie's amp. I read Greg Germino's interview in Tonequest, wow does he ever know his stuff! The good Dr.Z, Jeff Bober (Budda, & East), we all have so much respect for their passion, knowledge, and experience. Markt, a white maz is the only one I played, so yes, they do sound best.

I've got four kids myself and have only had a few gigs a year for most of the last decade, but don't despair. My youngest is just about to turn 7 and life is a little more flexible now. That said, although I've been gigging a little more recently I still only see one or two shows a year (if I'm lucky). Priorities change and family is everything so just enjoy the chaos and enjoy the show! From what little I've seen of Blackberry Smoke they seem like an incredible live band - looking forward to the report.
Cheers and welcome to the forum!

Hey folks; BBS played about 90 minutes, no break, 2 encore songs. Cool venue(they played there before), it's in the hills. Almost like a ski slope, the seating(bag chairs, coolers, blankets everywhere),are on the side of the hill, the stage @ the bottom. Charlie played a sunburst les paul most of the night through his Germino. Paul played his sunburst LP through his Orange. Stage volume was perfect, if maybe a little low from where we where about 80-100 yards up hill. I didn't see pa speakers anywhere around. Bass players in the crowd were smiling because the low end was huge and thumpin. Charlie uses a Supra term @ times and boy did that effect reverberate through the the air, you could almost feel it! The sound quality amazes me @ a pro show, how do they get it to sound so perfectly in a groove, yet you can still hear the piano keys being lightly tickled, it's an art form. So, not a Z to be seen, but a great sound just the same. Have a good one!

Sounds like a great show. I would haved to go to the hill climb in Dansville earlier in the day and then to hit the concert afterwards. Maybe next time.
