After owning my KT45 for while now I'm realizing that I could use some more SAG from the amp not unlike a Class A/AC30 style amp, any suggestions from anyone? Is it possible? Myles? Bueller? Anyone? ;D
Tube compliment: V1: NOS Sylvania 6267 sounded better than the Mulliard that came in it. V2: NOS Telefunken ECC83 V3 & V4 GTE34LS #5's V5 NOS Marconi Radiotron 5V4G
Thank you, Matt

Anyone? I'm mostly using a 16 Ohm Tonker in a GT 1x12 cab, which is convertible i.e. it can be open or closed back, open seems to sound more spongy. The Tonker may contribute to the quick transient..... The Greenback/Blue combo in the KW ported 2x12 has much more SAG.
Anyone?
Thanks, Matt

I suppose an alnico speaker could help but you'd need two to handle the power. My understanding is the KT45 is modeled somewhat on the Hiwatts, which are very stiff and designed to not sag. Maybe lower rated EL34s and a real strong PI tube might help. A tech may be able to convert it to cathode bias but I think this amp has an ultralinear output stage that may not allow it. Myles should be able to help when he sees the question.

Thanks for the response billyguitar. I've owned a a 72' 50 watt Hiwatt and I don't remember it being this stiff. It's really only stiff clean, which is odd, when saturated the harmonics are so cool, I don't miss the lack of SAG. The Celestion Blue sounds amazing with this amp, but power handling as you mentioned is not optimal. Fane makes a 100 watt Alnico 12", But I've honestly never been crazy about them. Maybe a pedal compressor, like the Keeley could help. I look forward to Myles's response.

Myles thank you so much for your response.
However, I already had a 5V4G in place, and Mike over at Kcanotubes said that would be the main component to replace for more SAG. He actually advised against the EL34 change. I've always loved the Winged C Svetlana's in other amps I've owned and will replace the current GT EL34's with them when they get weak. I've also come to realize that some of my effects combinations were contributing to the lack of SAG as well. I believe I've got it dialed in now, so thank you to all who responded.
Take care, Matt
