1) Gretsches KILL with this amp. Axes with 'Trons start out cleaner and that gives you even more dynamic room to work with.
2) What I pick up from Dave's playing: my fingers on my left hand get way too far from the fretboard to play that fast. I should work on that.

I ran into Dave back in May. He was playing at a bar (Whiskey Bent Saloon) in Nashville. I think that is a standing weekly gig so if you are in Nashville on a Tuesday, check him out. I sat there in amazement for a couple hours at his playing. He plays so fluid and clean. Great "chicken pickin" licks. His guitar tone was great as you would expect. He did an awesome cover of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb. The outro solo was amazing. Wish I recorded it. Chatted with him a bit after the show. He is the nicest guy as well. He is a "gear geek" as many of us here are. I told him he cost me a lot of money because of the Dr Z demos.

I'll wait for the collective gasp from the Z Forum here! . He did say that he uses his Ghia every day and that he uses a Z Wreck every night when he performs with Kelli Pickler. It was a really small stage in Nashville so he needed a small combo. He made that Fender sound like a Z I will say!

Deluxe Reverb is still a world class go-to amp! If not for amps like that, well... some very cool follow up things may never have occurred.

A Deluxe can make an excellent clean platform for pedals, and of course if you can crank 'em they sound pretty good on their own. Even the RI I had a few years ago was respectable at higher volumes--and at the time you could get them used for around $500.

Dave would make a Silvertone amp with a 1 inch speaker sound good....

I am not sure if the Fender amp was even his. A lot of bars there have "House" gear since they have so many bands. It cuts down on setup and tear down time. But yes, as was mentioned above, Dave could make any amp sound great. Was a treat to watch.

After watching this I'm a little disappointed. The video is not really showing the full out assault of what this amp is supposed to do! I like the rich highs coming out but I know the docs amps cover that. Where is the creamy ooze I been reading about? Jus saying I agree. I appreciate Dave's videos, and this one is also useful, but I would like to hear some chunkin' barre chords (Low E, F, F#) so we can hear how tight the bottom end is; and fewer notes, so we can hear the sustain.
