I thought I would check and see which tubes were in my amp, and to my surprise it has Ruby 7025SS tubes in V1 and V2. They sound OK, but I think I'll do some swapping soon. Has anyone else seen these in their amp?

Yep, Ruby in mine for V1 and the PI. I do believe looking at them they are older stock chinese manufactored. Back in late 90's to maybe early 2000's the Chinese made a run of 12ax7's that were pretty highly regarded, and i think the Doc must have a stash of em? They sound pretty good! Less bright i think than some of their contemporaries.

I had a Ruby 12AT7 in my reverb driver in my mazjr. Sounded good, but I swapped it out for a JJ ECC81. Didn't notice any real difference, but I've had better experience with JJ than Ruby. I did keep the ruby for back up.

They don't sound bad, but I have heard from a few friends that the reliability isn't very good. I have a fair amount of preamp tubes to sample from so I should find somthing that sounds great.

I put my NOS rectifier and a balanced GE 5751 that were in my combo and it sounds better. Not that it was bad at all. I had been using some Groove Tubes 12ax7C's in V1 and V2 that sound a lot like the Ruby's. Upon comparing the two, I was shocked to find they appear to be internally identical. They sound pretty much the same also.

They sound pretty much the same also. They are the same tube .... 12AC7C 9th generation. If you hear a difference it is because preamp tubes are a crapshoot when it comes to specs and the two tubes probably have different performance. On a side note though ... the 12AX7C is the most consistent of any of the 12AX7 types produced today and have a tighter tolerance than anything else. They are also the most smooth and linear of the 12AX7 / ECC83 / 7025 family. These are what I always recommend for preamps or bass amps that have a tube front end and solid state back end or mic preamps such as the ART or those sorts of things. Here is a test result sheet on the 12AX7C9 and it has not changed. Ruby refers to this tube alot as their "selected" 12AX7 and it is a great tube from either them or GT. This tube is also used in the front end of the GT SAG-FST (Fender Soft Touch) kit because it is so smooth and linear. There are also a lot of Marshall folks that love the "C" as it is much smoother in the midrange than most other 12AX7 types.

I should clarify that I put the 5751 in the PI slot. I can't really tell any difference between the Ruby's and the GT tubes, so I left them in. It's kinda cool to get the ones I like in the amp. Thanks for your response Myles.

...it has Ruby 7025SS tubes in V1 and V2.... Has anyone else seen these in their amp? I've settled on this one for the time being in my Galaxie. I've had a string of JJs, including the stock one, that went bad/were bad quickly. The Ruby is pretty smooth, and less dark than the Sovtek. Now in the last two days, the SRZ has developed some hum/whine, and then yesterday would distort like a dying battery in a pedal. I've tried a tube swap, V1 only, and the distortion is gone, but the extra noise continues. I might have to email for some suggestions.

I hold in my hand the wholesale catalog from the Ruby Distributor from my local music store, unless I am reading things wrong, Rubys are JJ's. As well as GT are JJ;s ,so I would say that they are all the same tube, or at least thats what it looks like to me.

Got em in mine too. Took em out straight away and subbed some JJ's. Keep'n em for rainy day :-)
