I'm looking at getting another CG. Similar to some other posts here recently, this will be my 4th go with the Ghia. I believe I sold the others because I was chasing a certain tone but the Ghia has always been in the back of my mind. Also, all have been the older, mid-2000 Ghias with the exception of the 25th Anniversary LE head that I had. The one I'm looking at currently is a 1x12 combo, 2002 model. It looks rough, real rough. It has been a touring rig for several years. But the price is good and I know they are built rock solid so I'm not worried. I'm thinking I will be able to get it recovered for a decent price. I had initially thought about getting the 1x10 combo but the 1x12 will do just fine...
So, round 4, here we go.

Congratulations! I've had 4 myself and still have 2. I don't know why I ever try to do without one.

I guess move them because they are fairly easy to move. But I always get the itch again and they can be had for a good price so I pick one up.

I'm on my 4th at the moment as well and though a recently acquired Cub IIR could feasibly kick it, you just can beat the feel of a happy CG. CGs are kinda like a favorite shoe; you try out others but you know you're home when you slip that one back on I've had v2, v3, and v4 and I think I prefer v3 (though my v2 probably had the conjunctive filter problem the older ones get once in a while; it was ALOT quieter than the v3 with the same tubes and would blow a 1A slo-blo without fail. The seller was cool and took it right back, though Don was ready to fix her up if I kept it.).

It's a little ruff around the edges from touring for a few years. Nothing a little TLC won't fix. Sent from my Galaxy S4 using Proboards

Doesn't look too bad at all. What do you think the round holes in the back are four?

He said the previous owner had some receptacles in there for something. I assumed power plugs. I may ask just cause I'm curious.

Yea, I've never really played one through a blue either but I'll try it out. I know it's broken in. I have weber ceramic silver bell at the waiting if the blue doesn't work out. I'm also considering having the cab recovered. I've read that mojotone does it for a decent price although I haven't seen any of their work.

Third time's the charm for me; hopefully this one works for you, Jess. (Often seems to be the case with the 'Ghia--maybe because they're less expensive & easier to buy & sell?) That ceramic Silver Bell should work very well with your Ghia, and if not the Blue most definitely will. Though, my favorite right now is actually a 10" Greenback.

I asked the seller about the holes in the back and he gave me a pretty cool story and some history to go along with the amp. The seller is actually a tech on tour with a pretty big name country artist. This amp, along with a maz jr were the artist's main backline from 2002 to around 2009 when he swapped to a different brand of amp. This one stayed with him as a backup until 2011/2012. I didn't know it, but apparently there was a large stage collapse in Canada a few years back - this amp was there with the artists but obviously wasn't harmed as it was in a road case off to the side of the stage. One of the techs on tour drilled the holes to install a twist-lock receptacle and a regular receptacle. The twist-lock was used to keep it from accidentally coming unplugged during performances (talk about paranoid!). Anyhow, after the stage collapse most of their gear was held by federal officials during a big investigation and once this amp was returned it was placed into storage until the tech acquired it from the artist.
You all know the artist I'm sure, but out of respect he politely asked me not to advertise the name publicly. I thought the story was too cool not to share. I usually take these types of stories with a grain of salt but I have no reason not to believe him. He seems legit, and the amp is coming from Nashville. He also didn't use the name of the artist to try and sell the amp, gotta give him props for that, of course I'm sure he wants to keep his job since he still works for the artist, lol. But he only told me this after payment and after I asked.
Anyhow, I thought it was pretty interesting. I actually attended a live performance of the artist during the time period when he was using the Dr Z amps, and although I couldn't see the amps he was using at the time it's cool to think he might have been using this one.

I did some research, the stage collapse happened at the Big Valley Jamboree in Alberta, Canada 2009. Some of our Northern Z bros are probably more familiar with it. m.cmt.com/news/1617426/

It's easy to sell and pretty easy get a used one for a good price. And it had something I like or I wouldn't keep coming back. I've read some good things about the 10" greenback. I will probably go through several greenback variants and see how they fair in the combo. I've never really been a fan of the blue by itself but I'll give it a shot. I have several WGS speakers in mind to try as well. Too many options, not enough money or time! Sent from my Galaxy S4 using Proboards

I love the G10 Greenback with my Ghia but it's pretty quiet. Not sure how well it would keep up in a live mix, but dang is it sweet!

That was tongue in cheek before when I said it was relic'd - but now that there's a story to go along with it, I'd leave that cab alone Maybe consider a Harvey pine cab for a lightweight grab-n-go that's pretty too?

Yeah, I've considered another cab but I don't mind this one to be honest. I like relic'd.

Since this one came by its patina through hard use rather than the relic artist's touch, I'd call this one a RELIC without the " 'd" Also, did that Blue come with it? I like my Blue more and more as it ages. I got mine from a pro who used it regularly so it already sounded better than any other Blue I've had.

I'm assuming so. The blue shows some age as well. It does sound better than other blues I've had and I'm usually not a fan of blues in a single speaker configuration. They always seem too strident in the top.

I played the combo last night at rehearsal and it was great. I finally get what the celestion blue is all about. This one being very broken in, I can get a full yet articulate sound out of the ghia. Lots of chime with that alnico "chewiness" that sounded great clean and took my OD pedals like a champ but was never harsh on the ears - which my tele pickups account for some of that. I've really missed the ghia and I'm going to play her this weekend at the gig.
I've NEVER been a fan of the blue as a single speaker but it seems to wotk well with the ghia in this configuration. And I've never played a Zwreck so I may be way off here, but with the blue in the combo I hear some similarities between it and the wrecks that I've heard.
