I have finally had time to put the Maz 8 through it's paces, and I have discovered that as well as being pedal friendly (when needed) it is very guitar friendly. I spent about a half an hour with each of my electrics, going through pentode and triode mode, MV at 3 - V at 9 and vice versa, as well as turning up the tone controls to 3. This amp just smokes. The changes I have made in the tubes are - 5y3 rectifier, a NOS Russian EL84, NOS 12AX7 in V1, NOS 12AT7, and I put my Gold in there instead of the stock G12h. Single coils, humbuckers, and P90's sound stellar, and if I add my Tim, Timmy, or Flying Dragon, they compliment this amp wonderfully. I have tried the tone bypass and so far I am not comfortable with it, but because of the volume jump I need to start with it on and see what guitar or pedal settings need to be adjusted (though I don't feel this will include OD pedals). Now I just need to take it out and gig with it - looking forward to that!! All that to say, as much as I love this "grab n go" marvel I will still enjoy cranking the Remedy and Z28 - so the 8 isn't enough.

Yeah Steve , it's a smokin' little tone machine. Interesting you put a 5Y3 in it. Do you think that might affect the apparent volume a little?

I sent an email to the Doc re that 5Y3. I read in the tube primer thread that it could be used in a Maz 18, though it will produce extra heat, so I'm trying it for now. I also have a 5V4 and the stock 5AR4 that came with it if it is not advisable.
