Here's the thang: I've owned quite a few Z's these past 9-10 years since I bumped into the good doctor's magic, but they have not all been my cup of tea. Prior to being a Z addict, I was a vintage addict (still am). Was addicted to the tone and feel of a '53 Twin (25 watts!), a '64 AC30, a '57 Bassman, and one of the earliest Matchless DC30's (serial number 12 I think). Nowadays I eat, sleep and breathe a Z-Wreck, Remedy and Stang Ray. What all these amps share in common is a great low end, righteously detailed mids that don't pierce (?scooped?), and brilliant/glassy highs, and they break up gloriously when driven hard. (The Stang Ray has to be nutted with an Air Brake.) 99% of the time I drive these amps with an old Tele. The depth and complexity of tone in these amps is what is so addicting to me. I have other great amps that are very loveable, but they don't beat out these amps for playing time because they lack that bit o' magic that these amps seem to have. I don't use any pedals, just dial the volume and tone knobs on the guitar for everything from clean to nasty to rhythm to solos. Z's that didn't grab me by the soul like the aforementioned were Maz18, Jaz, Galaxie, Route 66, Z 28, and surprisingly, the Antidote (too much mid range not enough glassy highs). They were great, just didn't addict me like these 3.
So my question is, and can anyone answer such a personalized thang: is this Therapy gonna hook me? The doc's description mentions a low powered Twin - I have one that I love, but it's the WAY low powered one. (They started at 25 watts, then went to 40-50 and then later to 80 watts in the tweed years.). Never owned a Dumble, so no way to actually KNOW what Dumble territory is really like. I need a great low end, sweet mids that don't kill, and glassy highs, with dialable tube overdrive. Anybody on this forum gonna be able to help me here? Doc?
