A guy called me and said he had 6 Raytheon blackplate tubes for sale at $15 a piece. He also said he will back them up. They are pulls out of an Baldwin organ that an older woman had and she didn't play that much. You folks think that would be a good buy seeing he is willing to back them up?

What are you going to put them in? I would make sure that back them up means sound good in what you are putting them in, not making any sound. Get it in writing. Price is good in my opinion.

Does "back them up" mean they just work or that they test at an optimal level? The price is right if the tubes still test high, but if they are beat then your money may be wasted.

His Hickok shows they are in great shape but that is not under power. The amp is going to be the only way I will know for sure. Being long plates I don't think they will work good in V1. I was going to try them in my Red Plates. I have RCA in my Maz and 28. I've got quite a few RCA nos black plates. I got lots of tubes where I worked because they quit using tubes and I found Telefunken, RCA, Bugle boys, tung sol and a load of others. I worked at UGA and they had a few electronic labs and tubes were stored away. It was a lucky find and also a friend that had a nice stereo had a field day. He got some nice Gold Lion KT-88's that were 2 matched pairs. That was a chunk of change there. Oh back them up means take them back if I don't want them. He isn't going to screw right now cause I got something he wants.
