I'm thinking of adding an effects loop to my srz 65
Do I need to send it to dr z or do they have authorized repair/modification technicians around the country ?

I'd be interested in that as well but I haven't investigated.
Let me know what the Z shop has to say about it

Hi Everyone this is my first post and I'm a first time Dr Z SRZ owner. And right off the bat just have to say being a long time owner of a 1981-JCM800 1x12 combo. My SRZ is real deal!Ok It's loud but man it takes what I loved about my 800 EL34's and takes it to the next level! How I tamed it was to install first a effects loop from Metro Amps, then built a Volume box with a 250K pot between the send & return. Also put in the loop a Strymon El Capistan Tape echo. If any of you are interested here's a link I put on YouTube. Also I love the way DrZ setup the EQ it's the best of Marshall & Fender. I play Classic Rock and Worship and it works for it all !!! Take Care. Vic. Vancouver Canada

you all are entitled to send any Z amp to anyone you'd like, however for resale value and to keep the lifetime warranty i'd send it to good ole cleveland USA Care of DR Z AMPLIFICATION, Some of the earlier SRZ designs had FX loops, I have never had any issues with the sound quality of any of my time based effects thru the front on any of my Z's even ones w FX Loops, I guess if your using processor based effects maybe its not a bad idea. I bought a Power Scaling Kit and thought of maybe using it with the SRZ but never did. I love my SRZ just the way it is , and will run it the way I have been for years, it, would it be nice if it had another gain stage well hell yeah but then I would lose all that fat Fendery tone or sacrifice something. Glad you guys are not scared of the higher wattages, and like plexi56 said its everything and more where the 800 leaves off, when its pushed, I have had so many compliments on how huge my SRZ sounds, just a bit of friendly advice, DO NOT SKIMP ON TUBES< only like in a gigging emergency, have never had it fail on me WELL 1x at home rect tube went bad and blew a fuse. I have a Highly coveted pair of MULLARD EL 34'S HOLY SMOKES DO THEY SOUND GOOD ! , I HAVE USED 77's for so long now I forget how the 34's bite so do 6CA7's, a nice set of NOS USA 12ax7's ECC83's will help a bunch especially in the highs or it did for mine, took that slight fizz it had right out. the work you had done looks to be in the correct spots id say, did you notice any tone or signal loss? are you using the 250k pot for the send or return side or both? maybe I misstood under ya as we say in the 502

what happens when that little gray striped resistor goes bad? will it send all that B + Voltage to that lil board? and the Pots? I'm not an amp tech I do tinker a little, biasing changing tubes , etc... , Metro Amps have done 100's of builds and mods for Countless stars I'm sure they have ruined their share of highly coveted amps too. I didn't realize that was a full video, I would love to have that cranked sound of my Super Reverb at about 3-5 on the vol dial, and would love the cranked Plexi sound at lower Volumes but I would never cut into my old amps. I have learned there are other ways to get the tone your chasing wether it be a pedal or maybe a different amp all together... I wont need an FX Loop on my SRZ I just don't have a need, the only time I couldn't get the full potential out of an FX pedal Unit was when I purchased the line 6 M9 it was OK hitting the front but it could have sounded better maybe if I did run it thru an FX Loop, I do know this amp loves OD and Boosts!! what type of cabinet/speaker setup are you currently using with this Z Beast?
You should do an audio Video for the tone with and without just for comparison. I'd like to hear the differences in the loop and in the front that would be cool. I have done 1 mod to my SRZ and that was a Footswitchable Reverb Control , Done by the DRZ SHOP works AMAZING!!!! I haven't a clue how it works but , it does and they were like sure that's not a problem , gave me a thorough inspection while it was there too. I just hope this amp will live, work and sound as good as it does another 20 years from now.
