Thanks Pete for the review , can you compare the Therepy to the EZG 50 ? Seems from what you wrote its a little dirtier ? Pete, please tell me this thing has way more gain than an EZG50 ! I per-ordered on the basis of the discussion that this amp was being compared to the 65 Amps Whiskey (from a gain perspective). The notion was that the Whiskey was more compressed, etc, but I was under the impression that the Therapy was similar, just not as compressed with more articulation. Pete, have you heard the Therapy next to he Whiskey and if so, are they similar? Keith I've never played an EZG50, and always thought of it as DrZ's ultimate clean machine, and from what I've seen on YouTube etc., yes the Therapy definitely has more gain, and with it's excellent MV, it has way more useable gain. It is also way more modern sounding, or at least early 80s sounding; the EZG50 strike me more of a 50s/60s surf sound - a good Italian latte, if you will; the Therapy is harder, more double espresso! Yes, it's in the 65 amps Whiskey territory - that's why I went there. No I haven't played them side by side, but from what I've heard, and what English John tells me, the Therapy sounds better, much better! Very articulate, and not as compressed, and sweeter cleans. I would say, not as gainy at the Whiskey, but plenty gain enough for me, and I've traded up from a Remedy, so I like my drive! Don't forget, it's a single channel amp, so doesn't have all that switching stuff the Whiskey has. Some of you know of, or have heard my younger son, Ruari, play and sing (he's trying to build a career in music) and he has an incredible ear. He has always liked my Z amps, all of them, but plays my Orange Tiny Terror 1x12 combo with his band. He gets the BEST tone from that amp I have ever heard, and plays it mostly clean. He loves his tone. However, today he was stunned by the Therapy - his comment was "that's the best amp I have ever played, or even heard, dad!" Praise indeed. I have to say, I am looking forward to a few of the other guys up here getting their Therapy(s), as they are much more experienced in amp comparisons; have owned way more amps than me; and can articulate their views in more technical detail.

"Oh, and I know not many are fans of the Edge"
Huh? How can anyone NOT be a fan of his tone?

Thanks Pete....much appreciated. However, I think I might pull the pre-order tomorrow and wait for some clips as I really like the compressed vibe of the Whiskey (or even the Carol Ann that the Therapy pre-order replaces). Maybe I'll wait to get Phil's take on the amp tomorrow before I decide (no pressure Phil ) since I know he likes some gain himself. Cheers Keith

Sounds like a good move! I'd do the same in your shoes to be honest, however much I'm enjoying the Therapy!! Get a few more, and more experienced, views than mine, and of course, some YouTube samples to compare.
I have to say, regarding the Whiskey, I am a bit fed up with Dan's continuos noodling on his Les Paul - I'd love to see a proper demo of that amp!

Congratulations Pete on your new Therapy and it's personal message inside.
Every Pete on the Z-Planet is especially envious.
Best regards,
Pete (aka Post Office Pete).

Maybe I'll wait to get Phil's take on the amp tomorrow before I decide (no pressure Phil ) since I know he likes some gain himself. Cheers Keith Oh yeah...I love a great clean sound but I loves me some gain for sure I'm the guy who told Doc he just HAD to put the Mazerati GT in production...and was rewarded with serial #1 personally signed to me on the chassis I'm always looking for the most "straight wire gain" amp I can get...nothing between me and the speakers. I LOVE percussiveness in an amp. Doc's better at that than any other amp designer except Ken Fischer. The "original" Rx was about the coolest, most "immediate" amp I'd ever heard up until the Mazerati GT and Z-Wreck and now (hopefully) the Therapy will continue the tradition. My bass rig is a Phil Jones Bass M500 on top of a ****load of his 5" Kevlar reinforced 100W-capable-each drivers...I call it the "sledgehammer"...with the built-in limiter off the dynamics are just unreal. If you've never properly heard one of these it's a pretty crazy experience. The transients that thing puts out are so loud and lightning-quick it does sound like being right next to a lightning strike. You hear the note at the exact same time the sound pressure wave hits you and then there's no overshoot...just dead silence until the next slam. It's a totally honest reproduction of your bass's sound with huge lightning quick 120dB+ (if you want them) transients and total clarity. My Therapy is on the FedEx truck to the local store for will call pickup. I should have it in a few hours. Only problem is that I work all day, then I have to mend Amy's garden fence, and take the puppies to their third vet appointment. By the time all that gets done it'll be at least 6:00 tonight. Amy is out of town this week on business so it's just me and the three kids and the puppies. On one hand I'll be so busy I don't know what to do but Amy being away is the perfect time to crank my Z's.

I guess I shouldn't keep referring to the Whiskey since that's not what I thought the Therapy would be. I guess I just had notion in my head of where the Therapy will land and I may be wrong. So, yeah, I think a little wait might be best. Keith

I just listened to those Youtubes you put up Pete. It defiantly sounds a little nastier, in a good kind of way. Funny I remember guys saying they thought the EZG reminded them of hi-watt amps.......I'm hoping to get down to the shop and try one this week. Thanks again, how bout a quick and dirty IPhone clip or something Bro ? What you tubes would these be? Can't find anything.

I think Frankie was talking about the youtube videos of U2/The Edge and Jimmy Page that were posted on this thread that give an example.

If it's in 65 Amps Whiskey territory (but better), it must be pretty great. Clips! Give us clips!
