I was under the impression that Darios were shipped sometime, but I think that's a mistaken impression. Aren't the Darios NOS?
My Stang presently has the most amazing tone I've ever heard. Can it really get better with a NOS '86?
I'd like to swap in a NOS and keep the current one as a backup in case of microphonics....

I'm not good at minutiae like hearing the difference in tubes but I put a NOS GEC EF86 in mine and I thought it sounded better by a hair.

The Dario has been the OEM EF-86, although the Doc has shipped some recent units with some new production models. The Dario is a NOS tube. I noticed subtle differences between the Dario and the Mullard. My current EF-86 is an Amperex Bugle Boy, and it is the one I like best so far. Haven't heard the GEC, but it's reputed to be top shelf. Harold

I have a mesh plate bugle boy EF86 also, in my Z28, it is very, very good. I haven't had a chance to try a GEC. When I got the amp from leftylang it had a telefunken which was equally good.

Apparently I bought the last GEC that KCA had.

My Z28 (used) came with a Telefunken. I bought a Dario to swap it and to have a spare. The Dario is meatier and 'grindier', but it also seem brighter to me. I like them both, but hope to try a few more to zero in on the best ones.

I may have the Dario in my Stang, as it's in the first 100 built.
Yes, I'm curious which EF I have in my amp, because the present tone is just MAGIC! I mean, I seriously cannot imagine being happier with an amp. But if it CAN get better as I improve to a longer-lasting NOS tube, then why not?
I hear mike just got some more GECs in-- get em while they're hot!

is the EF86 heatshrink'ed and you can't see the printing on it or something?

I have the tube condom on mine, too. Judging by the little bit of yellow letters I can see, it appears to be a Dario.
The Doc is using NOS tubes as OEM? Who knew!!

Apparently I bought the last GEC that KCA had. I got 2 more a few weeks ago and just posted them to my site. These might be the last 2 ever.

Who knew!! i thought he consistantly shipped 'Ray/RXES with Dario tubes. i don't think you can go by the color of the printing on the tube since Tungsram used yellow lettering and Mullard used yellow-ish lettering on their 10M tubes. if you need to find out what it is for sure, just pull that heatshrink off and see what it says. you can always get more heatshrink at an electronic supply shop.

Which ones have you tried skipper , I see there are silver plate and grey plate types in Telefunken .

Hohn, I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but why don't you just take the tube out, remove the tube condom, and read what it says? I'd be willing to bet it's a Dario though.
Good Luck, bs
