Hey all -
I play in a Wedding / Corporate Cover band that plays very often in quite a variety of different rooms and outdoor venues. We lean towards a rock sound, but play literally everything, especially a lot of country. I have been using Marshall JCM DSL 2000 w/ 4x12 for many years, and love the high gain and huge rhythm sounds, but am sick of lugging around the 4x12 and need a more versatile amp. I tend to get most of my sounds from the amp and the volume knob on the guitar, and typically don't use any pedals except wah, and a clean boost for leads. No compression, tube drivers, etc...I am looking to finally upgrade to a quality amp that is more portable. I am looking for a highly touch sensitive amp that comes to life with attack, and cuts through the mix without getting muddy on the low end. I have done extensive research on the internet and the seemly unanimous consensus is that the Z wreck is the most touch sensitive and responsive amp around. This is why I'm interesting in buying it!
I like my bottom end big, fat, and punchy.. which is why I have never liked a combo too much... BUT... I have heard the Z wreck combo and It doesn't sound like any other combo I've ever heard. I can only Imagine that the head / cab sounds even bigger... but costs more and is more of a pain to haul aroung to 3-4 gigs a week.
My main concern is whether the combo will have enough low end or punch when we do heavy rhythms. We never get into true metal, but we do a fair amount of GnR and some Metallica tunes where we grind. I have heard youtube vids of the Zwreck with a wampler sovereign distortion that sound amazing.. so I'm thinking that I may use the z wreck and get one of those pedals and I should be money in the bank.
What do you guys think? I honestly would much rather buy the combo because of the price, weight, and size, But I wonder if I wouldn't regret the head/ cab option simply because 2 speakers HAVE to sound bigger and fatter than 1.
THANK YOU!
Michael
