I frequently switch Cabs while playing at home with Airbrake.
1X12 (8 Ohm), 2X12 (8 or 16 Ohm) and 4X12 (4 or 16 Ohm). All WGS 12 inch speakers.
What is the safest method so as not to ruin power tube(s)? Do I need to shut Amp completely down? Volume down?
I play rather low volumes, so it may be a non-issue. Right now I'm running either FUCHS Lucky 7 or Train 45.
I understand speaker Ohms need to match speaker feed.

While it would probably won't damage an amp by switching cabs without turning them completely off, I tend not to take any chances with my amps. If this is something you do all the time and want to keep on doing without turning your amp off you could always pick up a cabbone speaker switcher to safely switch between two cabinets.

I always switch to standby. That takes the high voltage off the power transformer, so there is no chance of any kind of accident.

Same as Steve - put it on standby. If no standby then I shut down.

^ Agreed with baconator & Steve. Either (A) put the amp on standby or (B) use a switcher designed for that purpose.

the speaker switch is big bucks. As well as the Airbrake. Doesn't make sense. Seems like you could apply ANYTHING going INTO the Amp at a pauper's price, but from Amp to speaker it gets very EXPENSIVE!! You'd think, perhaps, it would be the other way around maybe.

I just use the Stand bye switch. Never had a problem. I agree with above if no SB switch then I would power down.

I live about 40 miles West of his shop. He'd probably install one. I fidget all day between guitar, computer, wife & kid and I like stand bys.
