I don't come into the brake lite section too often. (If ever?) I've had a brake lite in my Ghia combo for while. (hardly ever use it) and I've had an Airbrake for about 7 years.
I just got another brakelite. I installed it in my 1x12 cabinet. I hooked the cabinet up to my solid state practice amp, just to make sure I've got it hooked up right.
But here's the deal:
I installed it correctly. I was listening to the hiss of the amp to make sure I did. I guess most of us take the brakelite knob and twist it back and forth between setting 0 and 4. So it worked. But I started listening to the differences in volume drop. Granted I'm just listening to the hiss, but I can hear the volume drop as each setting is clicked.
Except between 0 (bypass) and 1. I could NOT tell any difference at all. All the other setting...yes, I can tell the incremental volume drop. It's as if there is no difference between 0 and 1.
I discovered the two adjustable clamps inside the unit are for settings 2 and 3. Setting 1 is not adjustable. (Manual says it's a 2db reduction)
So I don't know if my setting 1 doesn't work, for if I truly can't perceive the difference. As a result, I went and made settings 2 and 3 (the adjustable ones) very close to bypass. So basically I will skip position 1, and go straight to position 2 or 3.
-------------------------------
As I was typing the above, I had a flash of brilliance. (no comments from you guys!)
I went and got my Ghia combo (which has the BL inside) and hooked it up to the same SS amp...and did the same experiment. I could not tell the difference between bypass and setting 1.
Doesn't make me feel so bad about the new BL.
