With my new RFT 12AX7 & JAN 5751 having been installed, I decided to try my Ghia through the 1x10 cab/speakers that I've been auditioning the Monza through lately...
Short version of the report: I like the Ghia with the G10 Greenback better than the Red Fang 10. And yes the Fang is loud, but IMO it's louder among the brash high-mids whereas it's more even volume-wise with the G10 among the lows. At least that's what my ears hear.
Got an AlNiCo Silver Ten on the way from Weber... can't wait to try that with the Ghia (and Monza, too).

My first Ghia I had 2 years ago sounded pretty good with the Fang, but it definitely was loud. I bought a Gold and that speaker is the business, but I can't afford one right now. I'll probably keep the Fang and see how gigging life is in the coming months, but I play at church with an HD500 direct sooooooo....lol The Fang is overkill for home playing IMO, and I'd much rather have something quieter. I never got the chance to gig the Fang or Gold though because I typically used the house 2x12 cab at the church I was playing at that time.

Well, this was an outdoor concert, the little Ghia sounded a little...well...small on stage but I had em pipe it in my monitor and it was fine...some other players say it sounded great out front. I bet in a typical bar gig the Gold would be just about right. John, you told me so

I could see it being a little lacking in overall volume for an outdoor gig. (That's why I have a bigger amp for such gigs.) But for most indoor club gigs, I think it's perfect. There may be times where stage volume alone is enough, other times it may be mic'd through the pa, plus a bit of stage bleed. (a concept that sound men often have a problem with.)

I stuck a Gold in my brand new 1x10 Ghia after playing the Fang for a few days. I like the sound. Even though I was prepared for it to be a bit lower volume, I was surprised how much lower it was. The wife was pleased.

Yeah, I shoulda used my bigger amp but I needed to be able to get out of the way in a hurry so I just brought the Ghia and. a Ts9. Stage bleed...yeah, most sound men really don't understand what their job is...it's to work with what we give you to make us sound as good as possible, NOT To try and dictate our volume levels!

Well, it's clear to me now that I have underestimated the volume required to get over the drums and bass I couldn't hear well at all tonight, even with the ext cab. Looks like the Fang will be going back in for the next gig! I've come "full circle" with things before. There's no shame in it.

...I decided to try my Ghia through the 1x10 cab/speakers that I've been auditioning... Follow-up report: The G10 Greenback is a great all-around 10" speaker that has really grown on me. I still think it's the best 10" for the Ghia (and for the M12, too). It's held its own quite impressively, even beating out the 12" Scumback M75-PVC with the Ghia (and almost beating it with the M12)! Weber's AlNiCo Silver Ten was nice too, but a lot lighter on the lows and more inclined towards the mids & highs. The only better speaker(s) that I've encountered for the Ghia than the 10" greenie are the G12 Blue and/or Weber Blue Dog, and the WGS ET-65, which are all 12-inchers. Whereas I initially was thinking the 10" greenback sounded like its 12" brother, I now feel that its bumped-up low-end makes it more of a surrogate for the G12H (not the M) in a smaller size. How they get such solid bass out of a tiny 14 oz. magnet, I have no idea. The only amp that I didn't prefer this over all other 10's was with the Monza, where the Ramrod just seems to have "more" of everything--which wasn't necessarily preferrable in all other cases, mind you. So, a continued thumbs-up on the G10 Greenback with the Ghia.
