Hi, I have a NEW to me (used 2008 20th) Red Maz38 Sr Reverb.. I'm seeing a lot have the bass turned down real low and in some cases at 0. It's the 1x12 Combo with G12H 30W and so far I keep the bass on full and with HBrs in the bridge position I feel it needs a little more. I cut back the treble and cut is almost off and It sounds a little better but then when I go to the middle PU selector or neck it’s too much bass.. I have not experimented with it as I’ve had it only a few days. I’m just used to my Ghia which I have not much option on tone control…lol, I have always said the less knobs the better.. But I do love the tone on the Maz38… I have a C-Gold kicking around that I may try,, but thinking it will add more chime and less bass… My Ghai has a C-Blue and I love it. My Strats and Gretsch guitars sounds really good with the Maz and have a great bass response but again, I have it on full (turned all the way up). Could it be that I'm not pushing the amp enough??? I'm doing all this at livable house volumes in my home so I haven’t had the volume or Master past 2 or 3 depending on which way I set them.. Settings I’ve tried. : V=full T=9 O’clock M=12 O’clock B= Full M= 9 O’clock C=off to 9 O’clock R=9 to 10 O’clock Another is the same as above but with: V= 9 to10 O’clock M= Full Just flipped the two. Thanks, might be where i have it. It's close to a door way and probably needs to be more inside the room in a corner or against the wall.

Here's Buddy Whittington's settings from when he played the International Blues Festival in Windsor, Canada two years ago. Worked pretty good for him!!!

I think if your keeping your master volumn soo low, that may be why you hear the need to really boost the bass...and with the regular Volumn pegged...even more so. Alot of Z/maz users say dont listen with ur eyes..meaning dont pay soo much attention to where the knobs are set...twist them till you like the sound ur getting...and I'd somewhat agree....if a max setting is what your likeing...dont worry about where others have theirs set...we all hear things differently

I agree: if it sounds good, leave it alone.
A few things to think about, though. First, how old are the power tubes? If they're really worn, you're probably missing some oomph. Second, the MAZ tone knobs (Cut excepted) reduce gain in their respective frequency bands. You might try turning them all the way up and then lowering them to shape the tone you want. Finally, there's so much variation in guitar, amp and speaker match ups that sometimes you end up in "odd" places with the knobs. For example, I run the bass quite low on my 2x10 MAZ 18, but I run it quite high on a MAZ 8 with a 12" Celestion Blue. This is with Strats and Teles.
