I've had a 12AX7M for a while now, I don't know when it was made. I think I got it last fall. Anyway, I first put it in an Epiphone Valve Junior, which is a cool single-ended Class A practice amp (one preamp, one power) and didn't like it there. Last night I put it the phase inverter slot in my Maz Jr (reverb) and it smoothed out the lower midrange (or at least that's how I hear it) and made things "creamier" in a good way. I wouldn't say it darkened up the tone, just took some of that lower mid edge off. The stock Sovteck LPS was OK but I do like the M in there. Before I settled on the M I put in a NOS GE 5751, the M sounds better. The real test is when it gets cranked up, and I'll have to wait for that. If it goes bad, I will let you all know.

Jason did you ever get around to installing the mullard reissues in your old Rx? If so how did it turn out?

I use the M in V2 of my Maz. Contrary to what Myles said, I like them in V1 of a Ghia. I also liked them in V1 of a Bad Cat Cub II.

I was messing aroudn with various tubes in my Kendrick 118 (Tweed Champ) and noticed that when I swapped a GT 12AX7M the output was noticible lower than some of the NOS tubes I was using (JJ, RFK, Tesla). It was alos lower than a GT 12AX7C.

The 100 watt Marshall that will be at the amp show have two that were hand picked by me with a matching phase inverter and a quad of the new EL-34M's and so far everybody is lovin it.

Thanks Myles! The 12AX7M didn't sound bad, mine just lowered the volume on the amp noticably. It may just be the one I tried. I have a bunch of them I should try another. I like them in my Marshall and Rivera.

I'm gonna bring this topic back TTT.
I dug up my last GT 12AX7M this morning an gave it a spin in my MAZ 18. I tried it in V1 and it seemed to tame some of the highs and smooth things out a bit. I actually recorded a before and after test just to make sure I wasn't hearing something just because I wanted to hear it.
I remember having similar results when I used the other 12ax7m's I had in a Bad Cat Hot Cat 30 I used to have.

I've loved the GT12AX7M since they first came out. Bought 3, but 2 did end up going microphonic on me. I've got one left. Still sounds great. WHEN IN THE HELL ARE THEY GOING TO HAVE THEM BACK IN STOCK?!?!? What's been like, a YEAR or more???

In all honesty, I have yet to have any good luck with GT tubes. I've had both power tubes and preamp tube fail after very short times. The 12ax7m is a nice sounding tube, but buyer beware if it will last.

I returned it to my dealer, who replaced the tube. They are kind of hit or miss, but they're great for bright amps when you find a couple that 'hit'!

i have bought several of these, for various z amps,, it seems to me that they were very "dark" sounding. enough gain, but they just didnt have a top end i liked. i would not buy anymore.
