Tone-wise, no one has to talk me into a Blue in this amp, as I've been an advocate and user of Blues and Golds for many years. But they are quite loud. So I'm wondering if anyone has tried a greenback in this amp, or even better, some kind of Neo type speaker (lightweight) that is also lower efficiency? I think my ideal speaker would be one that sounds and responds like a blue, has a NEO magnet to keep the weight down, and puts out about 93db SPL (as measured the usual way).
Ideas?

Neo's are usually high efficiency.

Maybe not entirely comparable with the Blue, but I've always liked the Jensen MOD speakers for being cheap, quiet, and lightweight. The 12-50 and 12-70 would be preferable; I think the 70 would be a little closer towards the Vintage30 / Blue realm.

Neo's are usually high efficiency. Without actually looking at any, this would have been my best guess going in. So the only "advantage" would be weight, although they may be a bit different sounding from a traditional magnet speaker...

The NEO I like the best of the ones I've tried is the EMI Tonkerlite but it's pretty efficient.

Steve, I'm really happy with the blue and the Brake Lite, fwiw.

Yeah, I'll probably go with the Blue and the BL. I already know the Brake Lite works great for my needs, and with everything else, it's probably just the way to go. But you know how it is - you MUST second guess yourself, and ask anyhow.

A broken in G12H30 sounds good in the 8. I liked it over the blue because of the tighter and bigger lowend.

Steve, I had a blue in mine and really liked it until I cranked the amp up and it had a little cone rattle thing I didn't care for, otherwise loved it. Only other speaker I did try was a G12-65. It was warm and glorious but loud. I would think a Greenback would be nice especially with the lower efficiency. My 2 cents, Todd

I have a heritage greenback(20 watt) in my 8 and it not only sounds awesome, but it's about as inefficient as you can get from a celestion @ 96db. It turned the amp into a town home friendly crunch monster. Good luck!

Of course! FYI though I still have a brake lite in it as well, for when you really wanna get quiet. Enjoy!
