Anyone here have any experience with the Valvo ef86's made in Germany? Some Amperex as well as other known names rebranded tubes from Valvo. ArnieZ

With a little time on my hands and a need to check out these new tubes, to make sure they were good, I compared them to my current ef 86, in my Z28. My current tube is an Amperex labeled Mullard made in Blackburn. It is the longer mesh style. I didn't do an extensive A/B but these were my impressions: The Valvo tube is excellent sounding across the spectrum. Nice tight bottom and clean high end. I thought the midrange had a little more grit to it than the Mullard, not in an offensive way but in a bluesy rock n roll way. I don't know if this is a gain related thing or just a property of the tube. I gusee i would describe the Mullard as being a touch more HI FI. Both great sounding tubes and certainly couldn't say one was better than the other. At current market prices the Valvo version may be a bargain. No idea how it compares to the Dario which seems to be a popular lower priced ef 86. I would love to hear from someone who has tried both! ArnieZ
