It seems I keep reading articles on tube availability that claim the 6V6 is no longer being made, and most amps using them will likely have to undergo design changes. Also, there is a thread on TGP that says Greg Germino has stopped putting KT66s in his Classic 45 amp (a JTM45 sound-alike). Germino himself confirmed this, saying he had become dissatisfied with the incosistent performance of current production KT66's.
Maybe there are just some bumps in the road for the tube producers -- hopefully qc improves, and hence more consistent turnout of quality performing tubes.
It makes me wonder how the Doc is looking at tubes (especially output tubes) these days....not that he should be swayed by the decisions/opinions of others.
I would lament, for instance, if the Rt66 went to 5881's instead of KT66's.
Doc, if you see this thread, are there any concerns you have about the availability of current production tubes? What's the outlook down the road?

Steve Carr has done the same thing with the Mercury, instead of a KT66 it now ships with an EL34.
Guess I'll be stocking up on those JJ 6V6's.
damn Rusky gangsters are causing this.

I'll miss the kt66, if it goes, that is one fantastic tube. I have a lifetime supply (about 30) NOS 6V6 so no worries there.

The JJ6V6 has only been out for a couple of years, and gets great reviews. Hopefully the KT66 will smooth out in terms of quality before it goes away...

EH also makes some good 6V6s. I used them in my Top Hat Ambassador & Carr Slant V6 with great results.

Beckanon, I guess I missed these articles. Where have you read this? Is the EH 6V6 (GT 6V6R) no longer being made?

I can't remember the article, it was awhile ago. But I remember reading a topic that stated something to the effect of diminishing production of 6V6 to the point where they will no longer be made in the near future....something bleak like that. I don't remember if it's a supply of materials or market demand issue or something different. I'm not making it up...I do wish I had bookmarked that. And I also hope I am mistaken.
