Between the Ghia and the Maz 8 what has the most flexible and 'chimey' cleans? Imo, the MAZ 8. The Ghia gets grit in its tone pretty low on the volume knob. By working the combination of Volume and Master on the 8 you can get it to stay quite clean. With a Celestion Blue or similar speaker the chime is there. The Ghia also can do a bright tone quite nicely, but I wouldn't call it 'chimey'. Ok thanks dr. ice, this clears things up for me

Hey everybody, Here's my first ever post: I'm new to this site and a very new owner of Dr.Z products. First, I wanted to say thanks to those in this thread. I read everything that everybody had to say before buying, and you guys are the ones who gave me that last little push. If you're thinking of a Maz 8 and still on the fence like I was, here's my story and what I use it for: I picked up a Maz 8 combo with a celestion blue on Saturday to pair with a used 2x10 dr.z cab I bought earlier last week. I had every intention on getting the head version to pair with the cab but I was made an offer I couldn't refuse for the combo. I took it home and plugged my tele and les Paul DC into it. The thing sounds absolutely glorious, and at very reasonable levels. The cleans are great and that dr-z-breakup is to die for. I don't play anything too dirty, mostly country, rock, and blues. Living in an apartment (blessed with decent neighbours) I'm able to pump some amazing tones with some amp-derived-dirt out of the thing. Given my living situation, I was deliberating between this and the mini-z. What truly sold me on the maz 8 were the following: -Master Volume -Reverb (could be a touch deeper, though) -bass, mids, treble EQ -Tone Cut (This feature is awesome - especially for dialling in your tone while switching between my Gibson LP and a Squire classic 50s tele - (btw a killer tele for the price!)) The alcino blue sounds great, and plugged into the 2x10 cab (with dr z stock speakers), the thing sounds absolutely HUGE. What's best about this is that you're getting all of this great tone at very acceptable levels. This also takes pedals very, very well. So far I've run a TS808, Big Muff, and Paisley Drive in front of the amp. There's an effects loop I have yet to explore for some modulation. My former amp was a Traynor YCV20WR, and compared to that, all of my pedals have a LOT more character. It should be noted that I don't play in a band, gig, or tour around. I noodle around, playing my favourite songs and love exploring amazing tones. That's what makes me happy. For what I do, this thing knocks it out of the park, exceeding all of my expectations. Admittedly, 8-"Dr.Z"-watts is still probably a lot more power than I need, and until the girlfriend and I buy a house I won't be able to really dime it at home. But at the levels I’ve been playing at (in the quieter Triode mode – very handy) it's been perfect. Yes, perfect. Bottom Line: I've fallen in love with this amp. It's very versatile, and there are a LOT of features to get a LOT of beautiful tones. It's safe to say I’m experiencing 0 buyers resource. For what I do and the tones I like, this amp has it all. Thanks for reading! Hope it helped anyone as torn as I was Chris

Hi, Chris and welcome. Sounds like you have bonded quite nicely with the MAZ. Congrats.
Agree 100% on the Squier Teles. I have a totally stock Classic Vibe Custom that sounds great.
Btw, did you get a studio combo or the regular-size combo?

I'm thinking of customizing mine with a bigsby vibramate but have yet to pull the trigger. I got the studio version, specifically this one: www.lauzonmusic.com/newarrivals.aspx?id=1103I got it for their "Amp of the day" price, which was a real treat compared to what they have it posted for.

I just purchased a Head. Have to praise Doc's packaging. When I received it the box looked pretty bad. All caved in on the top sides. I made the UPS Driver note the damage. Fortunately the AMP seems ok. The R-verb doesn't seem very pronounced compared to my Z verb. Maybe it's not supposed to? I have her set up with a Blue and Gold : Two 1x12's side by side. So far I like it alot. Again kudos to Doc's packaging: Saved this amp for sure. Going to try a 2x10 at some point
