Just traded for a KT-45. Got it yesterday and I am really liking what I hear. I bought it with the assumption I could use it as a clean platform and use my pedals for different flavors. I am finding this amp to be perfect for this application. It sounds great with all my pedals and I like the high clean headroom the KT provides. I biased it at 34ma and have swapped my weber copper cap in and out for the tube rectifier and cannot make up my mind which one I prefer yet. Was wondering what you KT owners preferred in yours. Also do you need to re-bias when swapping the ss and tube rectifiers back and forth. Thanks for any advice.

Picked one up with the rectifier and have no need to try the SS. Gorgeous cleans. Compliments my Route 66 perfectly. 66 is "dark, smokey and saggy" the Kt-45 is bright tight and clean. I find the Route does not do so well with fuzz pedals when it is pushed past breaking point but does well with overdrive and boosts.
The KT is THE amps for my fuzzes. It holds clean enough at MONSTEROUS volume while still being clean.
I was able to crank it with an attenuator and it takes treble and volume up to 3 o'clock to kick in some overdrive and then it becomes another animal. I'd only go there if I was playing stadium rock though.
Great amp. I would not want to ever part with it or the Route!

How is the Stang Ray? I don't have an EL84 amp at this time and would consider it because I love the ef86 in the front end of my other Z's. Does it like pedals as much at the KT?

The Stang Ray is a stunning amp. Glorious cleans that are just gorgeous. Has good headroom and takes pedals extremely well. It is the kind of amp that makes you smile when playing it. I am guessing you would love it, I sure like mine.

As I've said before, every time Don and I get together for a Dr. Z shootout/tone party the Stangray slay all comers. The secret thought is that it was voiced for two Celestion Blues in an open back config. It sounds good with other speakers but is a totally different amp through the blues. It's positively 3D, just enough "hair" if you need/want it, string definition is as good as anything (Z-Wreck included). I like to think of the Wreck as "taking up where the Ray leaves off" which is not 100% accurate but a pretty good description. It is definitely the most "smile inducing" Z in my lineup. Everyone knows I love the KT as well but the Ray is just on another level of 3D goodness. You feel like you could walk right into the harmonics swirling around the room.

For the KT45 I love turning all controls to 2:00. I loved that tone.

For the KT45 I love turning all controls to 2:00. I loved that tone. Sent from my SM-N900V using pro boards I feel the same way about these settings. At my first gig with the Katie, I had volume about 2:00 but the tone controls around 9 to 10. I started messing around with it when I had a little more time and discovered I really prefer the tone controls over noon--anywhere between 1 and 3. Glorious sounds. Also hooked the katie up to my 2-10 cab with a C gold and a dr z 10 and am loving this combination.

I bought a used KT45 two weeks ago, loved it so much that I bought a second brand new one. Using both with the 5U4 rec. All knobs on 2 pm with an Alex attenuator backed off to wherever needed to keep it from blowing out all the windows in the club. 2x12 open back birch cab with Celestion Creambacks. The best amp I've ever played. Sounds good on everything, especially with a '52 yellow tele.

For most calls I get, other than jazz, my Z28 1x10 combo is plenty. My Rati v2 is a wonderful rock amp, and I'll take it out for louder jobs with my pedal board and a 2x12 cabinet with Vin30s. I use my KT and Route with a 1x12 Mesa open back cab mostly with my archtops and 336 for jazz set at about noon on volume, 9 o'clock on treble and bass, guitar volume and tone down around 3 or 4; this yields a very usable jazz sound with great headroom for the clean playing that leaders expect, BUT, the first chance I get, I want to take both of them out and open them up.

The KT sounds absolutely amazing at the 3-3-3 setting. It's loud, but it ROCKs! And w/ a twist of the guitar's volume knob, she cleans up to these sparkly, chime-y cleans...

Just got a used one myself on Friday. Swapped out the rectifier tube for a SS one and actually liked the difference quite a bit. Didn't seem as bright and brittle which was the opposite effect I had anticipated (if anyone can explain that to me I'd love to know why).
About to get all new tubes for it and thinking about sending it off to the Dr for a tune up.
So far so good but it sure is a completely different animal compared to the other Z's I've owned: MAZ 38, Remedy, SRZ (still have this one).
