I have a 20th Anniversary 2008 Maz 38 SR. This of course was before his most recent model in which he added an Effects Loop and EQ Bypass Mod. I decided to have the EQ Bypass Mod added so I sent it in to the good Doc. I received it back in better than ever working condition and the EQ Bypass Mod really does make a significant difference when engaged. As he states in the description on the website, the mod effectively makes it a 2 channel amplifier. With the mod engaged, it really sounds great and pushes the amp - it's tempting to leave it on. I go back and forth experimenting with it to boost solos or thicker rhythm work.
So, I'm curious who else has a model with this newer mod and how do you use it?

I have a 2013 model max 38 nr 2x12 and i haven't played around with the eq bypass. When i first got the amp a few months back i tested it out and tried out the eq bypass and found it to be extremely harsh and not super usable. I'm going to have to give it another try and see how i like it now that i'm familiar with the amp. Sorry i'm no help.

I have always used the bypass mod, I keep it on all the time, and turn the volume down and get a great warm sound, and great cleans btw. With it off it always seems a little to brilliant to me, unless it's really loud. Any old videos of me with the 38 has the bypass mod engaged. Good luck !

Imo, to use an eq-equipped MAZ as a two-channel rig you should start with the bypass engaged. Get the tone you want using Vol, Cut and Master, and choice of input jack. Then disengage bypass and set bass, mid and treble.
Note that on the MAZ these knobs are subtractive: they attenuate gain in their respective frequency ranges. Having all these maxed will yield tone fairly similar to the bypass. Bring them down to change eq and gain. (Gain even with tone stack knobs dimed is a bit less than full-on bypass.)
Hope this is useful.

While pondering passive tone stack and tone shaping this weekend I dimed the T M B knobs thinking that with them all full "open" I would be hearing the true amp and, at least at practice volume, its sounding really good w/ more bite. I'm looking forward to trying this set up at band volume.
Any one else run their TMB full open?
Based on my limited understating of tone stacks, DrIce's comment, that the EQ bypass sound would be similar to full open, makes senses - anyone else compare the two settings?

With the eq knobs all the way up the pots and other components are still having signal pass through. Iirc, the tone is pretty similar.

Thx, that makes sense as the more filtering in the circuit the more of a preamp load and loss of gain in the signal - glad to hear tonally similar which also makes sense.

On the Fenders with TMB stacks, bypass gives about +30 db! The old trick was to lift the ground from the mid pot. No loss from the tone stack at all. Turning up the tone pots all the way (minimum leaked to ground) still loads the PI input.
