I've been playing with the Rt 66. (head with 12inch cab G12 Vintage 30) It's seems that it breaks up too much for me. Instead of keeping that clean sound when the volume is up. TReble and Bass knobs are about 10 oclock. And volume about 4 oclock. Just straight single coil tele...Haven't had the chance to hook my pedal board up to it yet.
IS it the G12 Vintage 30?
Thanks Ken

Southmusic was onto something there. Zs react very well to playing with the volume control of the guitar. You'll be amazing how many tones you can get just by playing with your volume control.

Where I am with this is that the tone controls on the 66, if you listen to what they do independently, they will generate gain - by themselves - and this is how I think you can get the amp where you want (or figure out that you have the wrong one).
I would say first, come off the amp volume, say to down somewhere between noon and 2 o'clock, come up on both bass and treble to between 11 and 12 o'clock; second, take the guitar's volume down a tad, say between 5 and 7. Now, tweak.
And: don't forget that some of the really good sounds are with the tone controls past noon, say between 1 and 3 o'clock, and the amp volume between 10 o'clock and noon, and then use your guitar's volume to control dirt/clean.
For me, to dime (or nearly dime) any control means you may have the wrong amp, particularly the Z amps with the ef86 front end in them that I know (Z28, Route 66, KT45).
Maybe you should try a KT45. My experience with that amp is that by the time it's breaking up, so are the walls of your house. That's why I use mine pretty much as a high headroom clean amp with my archtops, but I did get an outdoor call I took it to with pedals, and it was LOUD.

Amp volume is set at 4:00 o'clock? That's basically full volume. Yeah, it's going to distort. And no, it's not the V30. That's a 60 watt speaker.
