Does anyone know if a 5AR4 be used to substitute a 5Y3?
Ex. using a 5AR4 in a Carmen Ghia instead of a 5Y3?

www.guitaramplifierblueprinting.com/rectifiers.htmlCheck out the above for some good rectifier info. But to answer your question, this would probably be a bad idea as the 5AR4 can produce significantly more voltage than a 5Y3. Of course, DR Z or Myles would be the final authority! Hope this helps!

Thanks for the link! That web page answered my question.
Basically the answer is don't substitute them.

I would not use a 5AR4 in place of a 5Y3. Much higher voltages would result across the circuit.
