It's funny how an amp (that you had entertained the option of selling) can sounds so good at the 11th hour. I know she sounds good ALL the time...but yesterday the Ray really delivered at practice. Keeper. Harmonic overtones and musical feedback with a percussive punch. It was good folks, it was good. Matched up with a Greenback loaded 112 (what?) and a PRS DGT with a few stomps - we went boldly into the 60's, 70's, and 80's with tonal perfection. I know that Blues and Golds are preferred, (and sound amazing) but we had some fun yesterday. Just thought I would share.

Miss the sound of mine...but it was too loud for the venues I play. It wasn't fair to choke the life out of the amp to get it to the volume I needed to play at. I wish I had kept it when the Celestion Creambacks came out. But I have an RxJr and Maz 18 that keeps me pretty happy.

Yeah, I would have liked to have tried my 'ray with a creamback. That 3db would have made a big difference from my gold.

I hear you there ... my Stangray is a 1x12 Combo with a Gold but I once cabled out of it into a 2x12 with Heritage Greenbacks, was a Thing of Beauty

The stangray is very hard to beat. It will be one of the most sought after amps if Z retires it.

I wish I had some ceramic speakers laying around, I'd love to hear my Ray through some...Especially a Greenback or one of the higher powered copy's.

Glad you came to your senses Paul! ;-) Great to hear about a happy Ray picker, thx for sharing. I used a G12-65 in a partial open back cab for a while, it sounds great for R&R tones and it's a low efficiency spk. I eventually went back to the Blue Dog Alnico. I recently put the G12-65 and a Greenback (both well broken in) in a Z Best cab. That's a rockin rig with the Stangray. Low-end thud, creamy mids and smooth top end with a ceramic punch.
